In Nepal, the social meaning of menstruation is impurity, and during their menstrual period, women are not allowed to stay in the family . In the rural areas of the western part of Nepal, women are even banished to sheds during their menstrual period, which is a tradition known as chhaupadi.
The most dangerous part of practicing Chaupadi is when girls and women are forced to leave the house. In most cases, that means moving to a small shed in the woods, animal sheds or so-called mud huts. These huts, apart from being dirty, dark and small, hardly ever give adequate shelter against wild animals, rape or the cold.
This tradition stipulates that menstruating girls and women are dirty and impure. They are not allowed to enter the kitchen, to attend school or interact socially.

Me watching on my period😊. My mom didnt allow me to go to kitchen. But i hide in my own house and on my 1st period my mom was with me all the time. I didn't want to argue with her she has own her belief. So In future if i had daughter i will allow her to enter in kitchen too and support her a lot. It takes some time to change.

In my home too my grandma also have strong superstitious belief about period. She doesn't allow to enter into the kitchen & never touches the woman going through period. During my 1st time I also had to stay 7days in my room & couldn't see my dad's & brother's face. Also, except grandma all of the other family members are against these beliefs. Such a great concept. 👌

I was period at very small age of 12 years 😌 I suffered from same superstation. Those days were really very emotional for me as it was first time and no one to support emotionally. I had to live in my uncle and aunt's house.🥺 This is really nice concept to spread awareness of periods 🙂 In future if I will have a daughter then I will really support her during her periods.🥺
