Congratulations you two. I'm glad you are finally out and leaving your troubles behind. Well maybe, because it is a boat. Still, more fun out there than on the hard or in a marina just fixing stuff. Stay safe. ❤🙏

Life jackets are always recommended for obvious reasons, but in reality most sailors don’t wear them unless the weather is bad. With only the two of you on board, it would be a good exercise to practice “man overboard” procedures. Each one going into the water while the other person reacts and successfully gets the person back out of the water. Safety is always number one, and sailing in open water, there are always the unexpected risks that can happen.

You can practice with a different object overboard, not good to take unnecessary risk. But yes a jacket is important Allways good to practice safety Cdn Dave

Great comments, but I really think they will be round filed. Something tells me that this crew is a big accident just waiting to happen. The bikini shots will help pay for some food and fuel but life saving skills are earned... not given. I'll ho0e for the best with one eye closed...

That dude is going to need a much larger boat if he plans to keep that dinghy. Until then, he's going to hate it as it will due to substantial damage to the Cat hull unless he installs a major rubber bumper around the dinghy
@DawnHunters
@DawnHunters 6 ай бұрын
Been launching several days a week now for 4 months. No rub rail yet but is on order -- then will install. The dingy I designed is lighter than a 12 foot high field with a 20hp outboard. The boat had a 14 foot high field with a 50 hp total weight of 1,000 pounds. Now I have total weight of 550 pounds which left by CG calculations room for the solar and wind generators. Soon will remove the diesel generator and shed 800 pounds. Then total CG and factory specifications will be less than when tested. Thank you for your comments. Love when technology minded people offer comments. The Dude

The question on wearing a life jacket depends upon whether or not Iana is able to stop the boat, turn it and navigate on her own, in case William slips and falls overboard. Emergency stops and man overboard routines are important skills you need to possess when sailing with just 2 people on board.

I vote that both should be wearing life jackets as the sea state is not smooth. It's moving enough to suddenly get hit with a large swell/wave to cause either of you to lose balance and fall overboard.

You asked for comments, so here you go. Regarding the bumpers on the side of the dingy - you designed a boat, so design a continuous bumper all the way around. It would come in handy whether on the boat or at dock. I don't see it as a big deal. Think of something like a bumper car. Life jackets - I would get the ones that are small and lightweight. I think they call them inflatable life vests. But, you also need to practice man overboard skills and have Yana pilot the boat herself. Completely by herself. You never know what could happen. Doesn't have to be a major problem, even a bad sickness would put her in a situation where she would need to captain the boat to a harbor. Of course I assume you already have thought of it and probably already practiced it, since we only get a small glimpse of what happens on the boat. Great job. I wait for each video. You are living the life I will never be able to.
@DawnHunters
@DawnHunters 6 ай бұрын
Johnny Very good to see your comments. Yes I have ordered rub rail material for the dingy. That is an angle continuously welded around the complete boat so I can rivet or attached a guide for the rubber rub material. The bumpers are temporary. And yes we have several types of life jackets plus double harness for us. When seas are calm and small wind I normally do not gear up. And yes Iana can handle this boat very well and we have practice getting overboard bumpers. (Ask Iana why. Lol) Again thank you for your input. Capt W and Iana

😂 As you two need to work out your Body overboard drill and get equally to grip with your new boat i would be a bit cautious dealing with sails and lines. Even though your in warmer waters... Staying afloat while comming about is likely to take a bit longer than you would want.. and at night then ...yep apply caution a NZ fisherman ended up overbourd a week or two ago.. he had to resort to signaling by reflecting the sun off his watch face to attract rescue helicopters. Hed been in the water for over 24hrs and it was only the sun ☀️ coming out that enabled him to be spotted. 😮 Dont forget your in an Earthquake and Tsunami zone... The biggest part of the Pacific/indian ocean ring of fire.. the best bet is to head for deep water. Unless your already ashore. Japans still trying to sort out their new years quake.

The electric dingy is actually a Dawn Hunter design and is perfect for 90% of the people out there. Is same weight as a high field 12 foot and the electric 9.9hp makes plenty of power while battery last 5 to 6 hours. Charges by solar and when on the boat also runs together with house battery. We will offer these for sale soon with either gas or electric option. Email if you like more details Capt W and Iana
