This was from last couple of shows from the Love Over Gold tour. The album was titled Alchemy. Incredible performance and Terry Williams had performed on the whole tour of course. This epic performance was from the work of an utterly well oiled machine. There was only one Dire Straits and they were on a different level to most other bands. Headed by the virtuoso Mark Knopfler.

The studio version, the one that was played on the radio, was shorter and less elaborate. This live performance was for an audience that already knew that one, so the band had to add something to make a concert ticket worth it. Mark Knopfler, the one in red with the headband, is 74 years old now and still recording. He put out a new album in April 2024... it's less about speed and more about other kinds of intensity. He has retired from touring, but not from writing and recording. He even owns a professional recording studio in London.

Magic happens while of enjoy to doing music with passion , flow and for shure great creation by Knowledge . The chemistry between the entire band was breathtaking that Time .I would rank Mark Knopfler among Unic's top guitarists, there is no way to copy that style. Left hand like Jimi but playing righthand 3-Fingerstyle , singing like Bob Dylan but different . What a treasure of musical creativity was given to us by God's grace at this time. Unique, epic, enchanting, harmonious and full of dreams that needed to be lived. Even Mozart would have enjoyed their way of telling a story with harmonies. It is more than music , it's like a prayer's speech , follow your heart and don't lose the way !

I'm not a tenth of the guitarist that Mark Knopfler is (I think I'm a better lead singer, although he fits just fine in Dire Straits), and when I was playing and singing several times every week about 40-20 years ago, I had to sand my left hand fingertips every two weeks or so just, so I could fret the strings without looking at the strings. I imagine Mark has to do the same on both hands. I wrote the songs for my second and most successful band, The Uninvited, band, a more metal band, and we started our sets with a song called Necronomicon: in the first part, I would do a pick scratch all the way down the bottom E sting from 14th fret to first: my plectrum lasted maybe three gigs and two practices. To this day, I still carry a full tin of plectra at age 61 for my latest, a more conventional band called After Dark. My plectra last ages, because it's not a metal or hard rock band (it pays better). But I still need to sand the fingertips on my left hand every month or so. But I'll bet a million pounds to a pinch of p*ss that Mark does it multiple times a month. He never needs to look at his strings to know where he is. The one thing we share is: you have to suffer for your art. I would give my right testicle for a reaction like that Dire Straits did that day (I'm glad to say I was there), But it doesn't stop me trying.
