She just lost her mom when she did this song. Hence the flowers her mom planted in the backyard. It's been two years for me and my mom's flowers keep coming up in the spring.

Her song is about her lost mother, it's not about boys you hear it it in the last song ( All the flowers that you planted mother) I'ts about her mother nothing annybody van can comperhand with the love of her mother, that's were the song is about. The most people think that she is sad that she lost a boyfriend. But that not true I thought first to te second time I heard what she mean to say it's about the lost of her mother, that nothing compares nobody. She had a diffucult life behind her lost her mother, and her 17 year old son committed suicide, of depression, the same thind she did in the past for so many years. I feel so whit her suffering, you been in so much pain in you life, and now you lost you only child. I wil love you always Sinead; Please keep strong, and thank you for this most beautiful song in the world, nobody can make a song like that whit such a voice and emotions. For me it is like yesterday that she first did this song. Seeing the younger generation listening to hits like this 30 years later makes me feel old but happy. RIP

Prince wrote the original and allowed Sinead O'Connor to do her version of it, which was a very different interpretation in meaning. Prince's version was of a song of pining lost romantic love, which was sexy and great. But Sinead's version chanelled her need reconcile with her mother, who had an abusive relationship with her. Not sexy, but that pain sears through her beautiful voice and right into our hearts.

Prince did Not allow her to cover this song, actually he hated when other artist covered his songs because he said the public starts to believe it's their song instead of his. The record company Warner Bros. allowed her to cover his song because they owned his masters at the time.

she wrote black boys on Mopends she wrote that song about the murder of a black boy in London, she was a defender of human rights. she spoke about what happened in the church when nobody wanted to talk, and I was banned, but later we know it was true.. in the Grammy Award. O’Connor topped off her outfit by painting Public Enemy’s yellow and black bullseye logo on the left side of her head, effectively giving the group, and the entire genre of hip-hop, a prominent place on network TV, O’Connor was firm in her convictions. Two years later, in 1991, Public Enemy protested the Grammys again over the ceremony’s refusal to televise the presentation of the rap categories. O’Connor-who was nominated for four awards that year, including Record of the Year-also boycotted for separate reasons, withdrawing herself from consideration and refusing to perform her nominated hit song “Nothing Compares 2 U” on the show. Rest in peace."

Lol your eyes are closed the whole time and you miss her emotion and the fact that she’s crying tears in the video. When watching videos of songs from the 80’s and 90’s etc, keep your eyes open as the videos are often a part of the song

It`s was a very rare thing when a video was as powerful as the singing back in the day, but you are right on this particular video. That tear was visually powerful because it was real and everyone watching this on Top Of The Pops when they first saw it will remember it like it was yesterday. Powerful..that was Sinead. R.I.P.
