Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass were very popular in the 1960's. I grew up listening to their music. I just did some Billboard research...They started performing around 1962. From 1965 to 1968, every song they released charted, 22-plus songs. This one, "Tijuana Taxi" charted #9 on Billboard's AC Chart. The song was written in 1965 by Ervan Coleman.

These guys came to Vietnam way back in the summer of 1969 to serenade part of the 3rd Marine Division. I was a Navy Hospital Corpsman with Mike 3/9 at the time. These guys played their hearts out for us, and for a couple hours, we felt human again. Thank you, gentlemen.

This renaissance man was the real deal and had it all, the whole package as they say. Played multiple instruments, read music, composed, arranged, founded a multimillion dollar recording business (A & M) and my goodness was he good looking. Wow, they certainly don't make them like that anymore ! 😪

Herb Alpert is one of the greatest musicians and entertainers of all time, right next to Louis Armstrong and Michael Jackson. As a matter of fact as the only person to have both a vocal and instrumental #1 song makes him even more performer for all time, and to think his first recordings he did solo, played every instrument in the studio then had to get the Tijuana brass when it took off.

I enjoy the music and despise the obligatory dancing girls. I saw this band perform at the Carter Barron Amphitheater during their heyday. Herb Alpert put on a marvelous, tight, and generous show -- several encores -- and no dancing girls. It was great. Almost everything that was televised back then was synched. The legendary debut of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show was totally synched. One obvious clue was that the guitars weren't connected to any amps--nor were there any amps on the set. Even more obvious---no microphones in front of Paul and John.
