Herbert Brün: Worlds of Sound

This is a short documentary about my grandfather, Herbert Brün, and how he brought computer synthesis to the United States in the 20th century. This was made as a History Fair project when I was in 8th grade in 2016, and won 10th place for individual documentary nationwide. Enjoy!

In the fall of 1965 I was in the first grade in Champaign-Urbana Illinois where my father was doing a doctorate and got to see my first computer, Illiac II. The Univ of Illinois played a major role in my development, since we spent several summers there, into the early 70s. In 1998 I had the honor of meeting Herbert, who was a seminal figure for many many people. Sometimes chance is indeed very generous in one's life!

Thanks so much for posting. In 1999 I listened to a long and personal prerecorded interview and feature with Prof. Brün in the studio of electroacoustic music in Berlin (led by Prof. Folkmar Hein). I was so impressed by his work and vision and it lasts to this day. To this day all my digital everyday devices feature a Brün graphic as background picture because I feel his mindset - just like those of the early pre 33 German bauhaus pioneers for design and architecture - remains such an important one in our digital age.

actually he didnt' have any computers until he moved America. Just some ideas.
