If you were still alive, Herbert, I’d say to you remember Huxley (for starters), and never underestimate the power of technology exploited by capitalist production and commodification to continue to create new means of ever refined and sophisticated tools of steered satisfaction and steered aggression that enable ever expanding and perfected mass control. I think if you were alive and could see the desktop computers in every home, the Internet, video games, AI, streaming video services, the stupefying expansion of the entertainment industry and mass culture, apps, and all this and more available now on cell phones and tablets and even watches and glasses.... while you did anticipate them to some extent when talking about computers and data processing, I think you’d still be as surprised as Marx would have been by the structural changes that were wrought by technology since his time that you’ve noted. We’re in yet another very strong and durable phase of global capitalist expansion here of what you were only seeing the beginnings of. The counter Revolution has again been wildly successful.

Although, I am of the belief that Marx knew well the very expansion and perpetuation of state capitalism in its hypertrophic financing phase. Perhaps Marx, of course wisely taking after Hegel here, couldn't have properly assumed the future of the structure, I do think the third volume of Capital is more or less a testament to exactly what is happening right now.

The “alleged” massacre in Cambodia! 😂 I suppose the millions that died under Pol Pot, Stalin, and Mao were all lies ?
@matthewkopp2391 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know as much about Pol pot and Moa but over half of what people believe about Stalin has been proven false. And much of the propaganda originated from Nazi sympathizers like William Randolph Hearst. And even if the allegations of Stalin were true, we somehow never hear how much of a monster Truman was for evaporating 300,000 Japanese and maiming over one million, or for burning down nearly every village in North Korea. Much less all the other millions upon millions that the US military has murdered. We also rarely hear it said that the USA has the largest prison population in the history of the world we just here about the gulags of a long gone country.

This lecture was from 1971. Pol Pot did not come to power until 1975.
