Flooded bilge, electrical issues, and leaking gas made this the most dangerous segment of the whole trip. / smallcraftcruising

This reminds me of a few motorcycle trips. Fun when you're in your 20's or 30's. Very cool videos

Walking in weeds by the water like Dan had you do is like snake hunting or snake trolling using your legs for bait.

A good way to keep pests off of your vessel while docked or tied to a beach is to slide a funnel over your lines with the narrow part of the funnel heading toward the vessel.

I docked my boat at the Casino @ Baton Rouge in the '90's.
@SmallCraftCruising7 жыл бұрын
did they allow it back then, or did you just do it anyways?
@randallmurphree20537 жыл бұрын
They actually loaned us truck to go in town to buy gas. There were about 5 boats on the trip. You could only buy disel on the Mississippi.

You need a tow bridle for the dingie

Carver Santegos have no lower helm station so they can have more room in the cabin. It also gave them more freedom to design a roomy, comfortable cabin. For such a small boat, it can make a big difference. I made a solar panel rack over the rear deck on my Santego 27. It provides shade for the back deck, holds a cheapo Harbor Freight ATV winch that lifts my dinghy, has some LED lights on the underside to light the back deck at night and is a convenient place to hang fenders and dock lines. I used honeycomb core and fiberglass to make some holders for the dinghy on the dive platform. Check them out on my channel, maybe you can do something similar on Herbert.

Looks like you guys had a blast. Sorry about the bad weather though. But I live in Alaska and I know about shitty weather. Do I'm keeping my second helm.

Just a thought: Put a helm station back down below. Also think about a hard top on the aft deck. That way you'd have more rain cover more topside space. Possibly a place for the dinghy.

brint holeman they took the cabin helm out for more room

What was wrong with your bilge pump?
@SmallCraftCruising7 жыл бұрын
In a heavy downpour of rain, the bilge would fill with water faster than the pump could remove the water. After the trip, we re-evaluated the bilge system and made some changes.

Just wondering how big is the fuel tank, see I just put a brand new 350 Chevy motor in my boat which is exactly like Herbert. Mine called the Pesus.
@SmallCraftCruising6 жыл бұрын
it has the factory 80-gallon fuel tank. With the repower, I installed a mercruiser 4.3 V6 with 4bbl carb 210 hp. (removed the factory Ford-OMC 5.8 240 hp). Yeah, there isn't really enough 'bad' weather in California to render the inside helm worth the loss of space in an already cramped vessel. I visited alaska and would definitely have kept the second helm if I build Herbert for the weather.

What was max speed and how many beds did you have do a cabin tour
@SmallCraftCruising5 жыл бұрын
Envy Anthony we averaged 10MPH over the ground. The river help between 1-4 mph so the boat speed varied accordingly
