This movie is criminally underrated. For me, it's one of Disney's best, next to Tarzan. I love all the Greek mythology hints throughout the movie. One of my favorites is Hercules wearing the head of Scar from The Lion King, which is supposed to symbolize the Nemean lion that "Heracles" wore after he killed it. Great little easter egg.

The best part of this movie is that, no matter how hard Hercules strives for his place as a True Hero among the Gods, he NEVER forgets his adoptive parents! Not only does he set them up for life, but the cape he wears is the one his Mom gave to him! Edit: The reason Hercules got his strength back is because Hades' deal was broken; he promised Meg wouldn't get hurt.

One of the many things I love about Hercules is that Amphytrion and Alcmene are genuinely kind and loving adoptive parents, and while Hercules eventually leaves home and learns of his birth parents, he doesn't forget about his adoptive parents (there's a brief shot in "Zero to Hero" that shows they upgraded their house).

There were several stories like that in Greek mythology. One I remember was a couple on their wedding night (the actual names I cant remember at the moment) where the bride is bitten by a venomous snake and dies. He travels down to the underworld and begs for a second chance. Hades says they can have it only if he leads them out never turning back to look and to see if she is there till they are out. Just as they are about to exit though doubt starts to fill his mind, has she been behind me, is she still there and he looks back making eye contact with her and at that moment she is pulled back into the underworld forever feet away from leaving the hell that was the underworld.

It may be mythologically inaccurate, but the changes are really for the better, considering how not kid-friendly the myths are. Still one of my favorite Disney movies.

Cronus the leader of the titans was actually the father of all the ancient Greek gods like Hades (who was the oldest) and Zues (the youngest) after their defeat Hades actually should have taken over but in the greek legends was screwed over by both his younger brothers Poseidon who took the seas and Zues who took Hades place leaving Hades stuck in the underworld.

14:10 why on earth would Phil not believe Hercules when he says he’s Zeus’s son? Everyone Phil ever trained were all demigods. I know that at some point the 3 strongest gods (Zeus, Poseidon, hades) weren’t allowed to have any demigod children anymore because they were too strong and dangerous. But the 3 gods (well, maybe not hades, he was pretty faithful to Persephone and I don’t think hades ever had children) did still break that law and did still cheat on their spouses and have sex with human women and had demigod children.

I feel bad for Hercules, because in real life Hera isn't his mother and since childhood tried to kill him just because he is the son of zeus with a mortal, after he finished the 12 works, Hera turned him berseker with a blind rage powerful enough to make hercules kill his own wife and children, after that the hero of olympus has fallen because of her😢💔

Well, that wouldn't make a very good Disney movie, would it? But yeah, the most unrealistic part of this entire movie was Zeus and Hera being loving parents.

While a inaccurate to the source material (Greek Myths). It's still a funny family film. Hades in the myths was one of the nicer gods. Despite being the King/God of the Underworld, that is.
