Not how this works man, the respawn system is impossible to fully understand but from what we know animals can respawn as any other level, so with whitetail for example, you want to shoot the little ones because if i shoot a 1, its either gonna stay at rock bottom, or go up, there is no downside, now herd management could play a oart but thats only after hundreds if kills

I was doing my best to explain the theory of herd management in 30 seconds. I think I should do a whole video on it. But at the end of the day it is just a theory. It's just hard to argue with the results of a lot of people doing herd management.

I wish cotw had something similar to way of the hunters "fitness" system. I don't know how they would implement it but it would make herd management a lot easier for new players to pick up.

The problem is that it's not herd management. The buck killed is still completely random. A lot of people actually do the opposite, shooting the smaller ones, hoping they get bigger. They really just need to add an actual system like WOTH because even with herd management, it just luck in this game. 95% of the streamers that preach herd management are full of 💩 and cheat. Instead, I found that out after trying it and doing more research 😭🤦🏾‍♂️

Coming from a hunter I love that this game’s community has essentially used herd management techniques and sometimes not realized it. We went from killing anything with antler for a great one to selective shooting similar to how hunting has evolved since the 60s

I agree. Played on Playstation since release. At the beginning it was all determined by weight of the tracks. If you had your skills set in a certain way you could know if that animal will be a diamond or not. Herd Management has really only been a thing for 5ish years at a guess.

Okay this is what I think, I do think animals respawn with similar trophy rating so say if your are trying to kill a diamond whitetail yes shot the 2’s and leave the 1’s just because the 2’s are closer to being a diamond and you will have a better chance of getting one but for the great one I don’t think herd management is really needed at all because many people have a killed a level 1 whitetail and have had it respawn as a great one the only thing you really need to manage is which drink zones you want to shoot from because it’s all rng when it comes to spawning a great one

It's random a level 1 dear could be a level 3 if you kill it same with a 2, and a level 3 can become a 2 and same with a 1

As a player, who’s been playing for 5 years, let me debunk something real quick. As an example, I shot a level one Whitetail and got a great one from it. Shooting a small animal does not always mean it’ll come back as a similar size.

If you’re talking about when he has the deer in his scope, there’s two or three perks that’s go into this. There’s one per that let’s you spot with your scope instead of having to use your binos, there’s one perk that lets you see the estimated size / trophy rating of the spotted animal, and one that lets you see estimated current health

Not necessarily, they spawn in a similar size. So tiny will normally spawn tiny

That's not true. If you kill an animal it will respond bigger or smaller if you shoot a small deer It might respond smaller but it might respond as a great one. You never know

Wrong Herd management filling your map full of minimum weight/small males will actually mess up the algorithm an give you bigger males in return hence why people herd management your mid maxing your map/manipulating ur population by at first stacking big males(Dimes) in your preferred hunting/drink zones to help cut down your unwanted zones you want to grind which will eventually help spawn more dimes an bigger males into thus main shooter zones once your map is 70-90% managed you will take the dimes out an only rotate the main shooter zones an checking the exteriors for bouncers every couple rotations Herd management doesn’t 100% guaranteed a g1 but it helps better the chances an odds of one an better luck at a super rare an provides lots of dimes

In real life it works the other way around, it's a pity that hunters dosent understand that and complain that the animals are getting smaller and weaker, A great example is the ceylon elephants which, due to poaching, became smaller over time and their horns stunted, maybe it's the poachers' fault, but hunters also contribute to such things, they often hunt the largest, most genetically valuable specimens, so the weak ones pass on genes witch make animals weaker. Nerd mode disactived

Yes, you can! It will speed up this process because they will drop faster leading to more respawns. The only thing it will effect is the harvest check, so don’t shoot any trophies with the improper ammo.
