I saw all your videos on herd management. Got inspiration and started with grassland. My technique was bit different. If I found two low gene bucks in one herd. I would not kill them on same in-game day. I would shoot them in two days. With white-tail and mule deers. Proudly to say in Grassland I saw 2 five star white-tail and 3 mule deers grew. I also took in consideration of hunting pressure. I did not put too much pressure on one herd. Kind of assigned days to each herd for visiting and they grow splendidly.

The first mule deer you took, if you look at his rack and see how non symmetrical it was. If you shoot all those you'll find none over 50% I've only seen one with a non symmetrical at 67% so I don't even call anymore. You can kinda tell at young but definitely tell at adult if they are good or not. Great video. I used to believe what I saw on KZbin sometime and thought that they pass genes and I would leave a 5 star but a lot of testing last week it definitely is a roll but you can manage by looking at racks, you will never have above a 3 star with a rack that's not a symmetry rack. I agree that low fitness spawn to lower fitness averages because all you would have after that is 5 stars. Then the game wouldn't be as fun in my mind

Hey bumble thanks this illuminated a few things for me. I've been lucky with my 5 stats I don't think any of them have been down to my herd management just pot luck but sometimes you need that RNG luck. But I'm trying to manage herds now playing everyday again. Started streaming it now myself too. :)

I was one of those guys that thought they put more into than they did even making racks grow funny with wounds, because I saw it once. Then I started getting curious and when I couldn't reproduce it I realized it's just a spawn number and chance. Keep shooting low fitness and eventually you'll get a high. I would like to see that melanistic rack. It appeared non symmetrical in you drone shot but at lodge it looked symmetrical but even when I do it in my game I have to really zoom around them to see the small deficiencies. It appeared that his left G2 G3 were closer together that the right and I see that rack a lot. Shows up in young but I couldn't really tell on your video. Thanks for keeping me in check and not getting to far in weeds. Very educational your videos.

@@bumblewoot so after a little more testing I'm pretty sure that the racks, which I have two 2 stars with the exact same rack, have to do with fitness. So I know for sure looking at your melanistic and the first one you shot and comparing them to some of mine I've culled that the racks are the indicator for fitness. You can see some indicators at young more at adult and can tell right away if a mature will be worth letting live. It appears they have a left and right rack and some are smaller some are bigger, some are symmetrical some aren't . But when you find the right combination you know. My former life before a game warden I was a systems engineer and computer programmer. So when I think they make it realistic like you shoot a deer on the left side and it lives, then the right rack gets wonky is because it would be easy to do. Especially since they have limited antlers. So say you have a buck that is symmetrical and he's at high fitness and you shoot and wound him you can program has been hit: lived: change antler left. I know they don't do that because they could but don't. They could do does in herd to say take antler left from buck one and antler right from buck two and respawn young with same, and if it's a same antler pattern from buck 1 & 2 it could be a 5 star. Don't know if they do that, but it would work. Or they just randomly assign rack one and two, and assign an average fitness for each side depending on design and that makes fitness and I'm going with that. Seems the most likely what they are doing and maybe killing the less equal racks spans more equal. Let me know your thoughts because your melanistic was way wonky when I re watched and slow moed it. One side wasn't the same and way smaller.

@@jamesbevan9989 the racks have been analyzed by quite a few people, but I am not one of them. It's too species specific. Have you taken a look at toothless 's guide? He has a lot of antler stuff in there

@@bumblewoot no I haven't checked his out but I will. The only thing I haven't looked at is the horned animals. But can definitely call a low fit by the rack now at 100% accuracy so far. Thanks for the info!

Little update on my last comment on the last video on the subject. Since release I have hunted the area south from the lodge all the way to the bottom of the map (grasslands area) many times. Try to only take 2 animals max from a herd, sometimes only 1. Focusing on all low fit over time and now killing the weaker matures (2 grey matures that are a 2*, take the one that looks smaller) I have no low fit at all responding to the low fit calls now all along the river south. I hunted from 07:00 until 16:00 to ensure I found all herds and checked them out. Had 2 mature 1 stars but they were just over 50% fitness. On my journey I found 4 mule deer that are a 4 star and not that grey. Found 2 whitetail 4 stars that look old but might make 5. Had about 5 3 star bucks also between all the herds. I can honestly say for about 2K south of the lodge, my animals are likely higher fitness than diamond drill now (a area I don't like to hunt often) To easy to get good genetics. For me, after 450 hours herd management works as intended. It doesn't guarantee any 5 stars but genetics do indeed improve. The longer you play, the better you can make them. Devs say there is a ceiling for genetics but had a few 90+ from that stretch already. Haven't finished the video to know if you confirm this but, I would put money on you ruining the genetics by taking out so many animals in one go. I think it works kind of like generations if you get me? Over time, genetics will pass down through the younger animals. Keep up the great work and congrats on the 2K 👍👍 Just needed to comment as after what I saw earlier, herd management pays off big time if you are patient with it.

Yep. Moral of the testing is that slow and steady wins the race. By the numbers though, a fast aggressive culling should work. But we were not informed of all the numbers 😆

@@bumblewoot Only halfway into the video but wanted to comment on what I saw earlier on my map. Its only in the last about 50 hours on Nez I have started to see 3-5 stars all along that stretch. Around release all animals would come to the low fit call and the biggest I saw was a 2 star mature. Its the area I like to hunt for deer the most on Nez so the area I have really noticed a difference. Maybe by taking out all males it means a reset as the females cant mate? I know they say its a average for a area/region but maybe at least 1 male needs to be in each herd for genetics to pass down? Maybe without that it gets reset to base map levels? Those genetics are similar to what all mine were around launch 🤣 Be more than willing to send you my save if you wanted to test and kill all the deer down there and work out a average? There have been occasions that I have let 5 stars die in the hope of improving genetics. I have taken out 3 or 4 stars if they look worse genetics. Maybe my lodge being bare means my reserve is getting full of good genetics 😂

Devs coded the game so that it can automatically detect attempts to cheat/understand the engine logics. Thus, WoTH engine automatically ruins all your herds for trying too hard or sleeping too much XD It simulates a bacillus bacteria that spreads into the herds and worsens their genetics. XD Enjoying the videos, keep them coming ;)

I just started playing the game for the first time, I'm on Ranger. If herd management was a big portion of the game, i think it would give you more info when looking at the animals even on Ranger. As it sits now, i get no information unless I harvest. Could the management be just cosmetic? So, taking low fits with the call, look for abnormalities and harvest them, which will give you a more generalized selection moving forward? Not really increase your 5* lot change, but have more "normalized" animals.
@bumblewoot
@bumblewoot 7 ай бұрын
It's all numbers really. Don't look too close or you may wreck immersion 😀. One can only manage some species minimally on Ranger. Ranger is a tacked on difficulty to appease the hardcore crowd. It's good that it is in, but it isn't balanced with some game mechanics

@@bumblewoot Thanks for the reply:) As you killed all males in one heard, or by having no males into a heard maybe it is seen as zero fitness.

hey man...cheers for the info...so they take an average, of the average for every herd. and thats toggled to an area? I do have a question. you said some didnt react to high or low fitness call. what average fitness did they have. did you win? xD... and tbh only using an average is not rly that good. Lol. them low fitness new born are bs...18% oh...maybe u harvested too much and get a penalty fot it? like the gene pool wasnt big enough maby? yeah wrecking herds must be a thing...tbh im an idiot aswell. plus this is my first hunting game...i didnt even know what fitness or different antlers meant. well im still just learning. another thing is...if managing is soooooo important u wouldnt find 5stars without managing the herd...some randomness will be in there so you can find a 5 star whatever while "hiking" Yes exactly...you could manage every herd and animal to only spawn 5 stars and no worries im loving the longer vid. the experience is worth a lot and what is your dc? if its a "official" one. i didnt want to pretend we r friends...xD
@bumblewoot
@bumblewoot 7 ай бұрын
I don't think it's a penalty. Just the game making sure the player can't break it. If some deer do not react to either high or low fit call it is just RNG. Some animals just have a chance to ignore the calls. We have scienced this before 😀👍
