If Righteous Valk came back they'd be a pretty high tier deck again for sure. I think in Explorer they're still one of the better decks

It's not exactly a groundbreaking observation for a mid-range deck, but Angels feels so much more suited for best of three to me. Although I think it might now be reasonably competitive there. I think your matchup against mono red is probably worse than you are realizing with this build, and having no counterspell for Sunfall decks makes those matchups tough too. Trying to be fast enough to beat mono red but efficient enough to beat control is tough. For example, Inspiring Overseer is one the better cards in the deck in matchups that are slow enough to not punish you for it, but terrible against mono red. It can't even trade on board with Swiftspear a lot of the time. As for problems with removal tribal like you mentioned, you definitely want to run cheaper protection. The deck is way too reliant on Giada to cross your fingers and hope she lives. Skrelv and Surge of Salvation are both good. Surge is pretty underrated, even in best of one. There's enough red and black in standard that you get the full value a lot, and a one mana protection spell is fine even without it. Giving yourself hexproof also ends up being relevant more than you might think. Besides obviously blocking burn, blocking things like Jace and Liliana is a fun way to win a game. One card that might seem weird that I want to give a try in the deck now that Resplendent Angel is back is Teferi. I've been impressed by its performance against mono red in other decks, and it can give you card advantage in slower matchups. Even though you probably don't want to run any mana rocks, untapping Giada is nice (if you play him turn 4 with Giada on board you can still cast a 3 mana angel), and Steel Seraph is an artifact, and you often find yourself in situations torn between attacking with vigilance or lifelink with it. And you also often end up only gaining 3-4 life and not triggering Resplendent Angel, so the extra 2 life gain is relevant even in games where your life total isn't threatened.

Agreed on the reliance on Giada. I think that surge is underrated as well but I'm super greedy and just end up cutting cards like that most of the time to jam other things lol teferi is an interesting call. Having planeswalkers definitely adds an extra layer they need to deal with so would be interested to see how that performs given the synergies you mentioned

i used to play historic and only have 1 creature that would win it and the rest of the cards would be land drawing monsters or spells because i was tired of always having 2 lands for 10 turns in a row.@@GrumpsteinMTG

Shiii remember javier Dominguez would come down and it would animate a goblet. They were putting animations on a lot of rares and mythics back then.
