Most accessible would be Hades, a non-accessible doesn't come to mind at the moment as I suppose the demos help me filter out those that don't work for me and they become quite forgettable most of the time.

The roguelike I play that feels like it has the most brutal RNG is FTL: Faster Than Light, although I really think it works there as it adds to the atmosphere of desperation and precarious survival, much like in Darkest Dungeon. As for the most skill-based, i'd go with something like Rogue Legacy maybe? Within a run there's never anything that's gonna completely derail your chances, as the Metroidvania-style exploration means you can just avoid certain nasty rooms if you want to.

Without stating the obvious, I’ve always thought Hades is one of the best, fairest and most skill-based roguelights/likes [whatever is the correct term]. You never feel like a run was a waste of time as the meta progression is constant, and you start to go further and further in each run as you get used to the mechanics and the synergies of boons.
@MrS1ebee

For me, the most fair roguelike is Dead Cells, it's pure skill and can be beaten with any weapon of your good enough. Maybe slay the spire is more rng / luck of the draw, but to be honest, I absolutely love that game as well and there's definitely a lot of skill to it. I guess it's more you can be really unlucky with what's given to you on some runs. The turtles game looks really good, but I honestly lost interest in Hades really quickly so I don't know if I'll pick it up
@Laf631
@Laf631 Ай бұрын
Ah, I'd worried that about Darkest Dungeon II, since it was my biggest complaint about the original: you can do everything right and the RNG just crushes you. And it's personally not fun for me to be crushed by RNG. If I suck at a game, I want it to be because I made mistakes, not because some RNG behind the scenes decreed it so.

Well that abattoir game reminds me of caveman I think was the name on DOS. And when it comes to rogue likes I think the best one I played is Moonlighter because the dungeons have like a difficulty level, it’s mostly skill based. Plus you decide whether or not you risk it for more loot, because you can leave the dungeon at any time as long as you can cast the thing because if you get hit while doing it is canceled. Because you have a bag and that bag is not infinite and it’s interesting because you can use the thing or sell it in your shop. And that shop gameplay is surprisingly good. It has RNG but it almost never feels unfair. Regarding the last game, they try to evoke the feeling of arcade games, but what they seem to forget is that in an actual arcade game while idle it almost always has a controls layout or how to play mini tutorial, plus you can also learn how to play by watching somebody else play, but in a console you can’t necessarily do that, so a mini tutorial or a small clip with the controls or god forbid a freaking manual! To me those manuals were the only reason to get a physical game, but I guess 90% of people didn’t care for the manuals. Back in the 3DS WiiU era you had a digital manual that was awesome.

For me the most accessible roguelike will always be hades since it has a reasonable difficulty curve and options. Backpack Mouse is also good for puzzle elements too. I think Children of Morta has way more rng that it needs to and becomes a slough toward the end

Enter the Gungeon has got to be one the most accessible roguelikes as it mostly skillbased. I approached the Darkest Dungeon games similar to how one might approach the Dark Souls games. I expected to be beat down, die, and despair in the face of a seemingly unfair challenge. Not a roguelike, but I like the way that Hard West handles luck. It's a turn-based weird wild western game. If you shoot and miss, then your luck will increase making you more likely to hit on your next turn. If you hit, your luck goes down. Same with enemies when they are shooting you. Edit: I've just looked on the eshop and it is 90% off at £1.79. Utter bar-jhan! I got the physical in Cex last year for not much dollar.

My daughter and I have been playing splintered fate but I have noticed that some of the menus don’t work for 2P. It’s great fun but it seems the leveling system isn’t made for multiplayer.

Jeeze that made me double take, actual ages are 24 and 16, not 21 and 11 in case, like me, you were kinda concerned about it, and its portrayed as a one sided crush. That was a really irresponsible comment. I literally looked it up to see if I was returning the game.

Is TMNT still fun in solo and does it perform well in handheld? I am predominantly solo and handheld.

Yeah, I've played a huge number of runs solo and it's great fun. Performance is fine in handheld mode, too. Glen
