Actually everything up here is turning into air BnBs. There's next to no full time rentals. Unless you're looking to buy a house up here, no point in moving. Also, since covid hit and we've been getting crazy amounts of tourists we can barely go places in our own town. It is beautiful and we do have a great community.

From the 50's through the 80's my parents had 3 different "cabins". One behind the theater downtown, one in the area of Snow Summit, one in Moonridge. The entire Valley was rural, laid back, safe, everything was Mom and Pop scale. Now it is just like down the Hill, all curbs, gutters and sidewalks, a traffic signal every 500 feet, every franchise food operation known to man. If its in LA, its now in BB. Probably get a ticket for too many pine cones in your yard now.

Hi, I work for a 5 star restaurant in big bear. I can't say the name or I might be fired. But yeah the tourism here is kinda destroying our community. You can get a ticket/fine if you do not clear your property of burnable waste because of the wildfires we get. Recently meth use has skyrocketed because of the tourism... Locals usually fillander with tourists which exposes them to the substance and gangs have posted dealers here to supply the masses. With the pandemic things have gotten worse. Nobody picks up waste, and the town has still been low income despite the millions of dollars in tax revenue it generates monthly (it goes tword metropolitan san bernardino or it goes to maintain emergency services.) Doesn't help the locals or their infrastructure. I could go on for days about the illness or ailments that are destroying this beautiful town but honestly I pray every day for peace to come back to our community. god bless and stay safe. PS if you don't wear a mask you'll probably be arrested, or beaten.
@vegas1a3 жыл бұрын
@@rickslick69420 Meth? Damn, I didn't even think about that dirty side of society. Pretty sad state of affairs. Like all the garbage moved from South LA, turning San Berdoo into the most dangerous city. Once had a conversation with one of the store owners along the main street. She practically went hysterical about living in California. Said the minute her husband retired from his high paid aerospace job, they would be leaving Cali.

It’s actually the City of Big Bear Lake, a full time pop of just over 5000. The city is south of the lake and consists of the Village and most of the heavy commercial areas including the ski resorts and lots of second homes. North of the lake is unincorporated Fawnskin and Then there’s the unincorporated Big Bear City (it’s a long story). Together, the Big Bear Valley has a population of about 18,000. It’s isolated, only 3 routes to get on or off the valley (down the mountain) and has been evacuated once (Big Fire in 2003) although parts of the valley get evacuated periodically due to fires. Biggest natural disaster threats are fires and earthquakes (it is California even if it doesn’t feel like it). Sometimes landslides and floods. There are bears and other wildlife. It’s beautiful, it’s a four season resort, easy drive from anywhere in Southern California and even from Las Vegas. It’s a popular destination so it’s very crowded on all holiday weekends. The unincorporated areas are mostly full timers. There are many other unincorporated small towns in the San Bernardino mountains, mostly bedroom communities. Anyone “off the hill” is a flat lander.

Big Bear today it's surrounded with too many of the new communities or old ones with new homes so it makes it unbearable to drive up there on the weekends and holidays. I try to ski locally just during the week when possible to avoid all the crowds from Dana Point.
