If you are prepared for a headache, it is possible to fix it all yourself. I had one of these and in the time i owned it (7 years) HPFP broke, thermostat housing replaced, did the timing chain, changed camshaft position sensors & VVT solenoids, had a spark plug snap in the engine which was a nightmare to remove. And then over the years the usual brakes / Suspension repairs and had to weld the exhaust backbox back on. The garage quoted me thousands for all these repairs but doing it myself saved loads of money. I have access to ramps though and some pretty handy friends. Annoyingly I got the car all running right a couple of months ago and ran over a badger last weekend and the insurance company want to write it off. All in all, I got 110k miles out of mine before the badger attack, if you are prepared to put the work in yourself it's the only time worth keeping one. They are a pig to work on. Especially if its pre 2015. After that they seemed to sort out a lot of the issues.

These cars have an Electronic (not controlled by wax)thermostat which if it fails can cause overheating. My guess is previous keeper has drove the car when the thermostat has failed which would of triggered the engine light and cooked the engine. They also have a none conventional waterpump which doesn't run all the time. So you get quicker warmups from cold to keep emissions down. The pump is controlled by an actuated rubber wheel. Very good idea but if your not in the no can be troublesome they also are prone to PCV diaphragm failure which causes oil burning which will in turn eventually cause the timing chain to fail from oil starvation as the tensioners are controlled by oil pressure. All relatively simple repairs, also if you have 200 THP on the rocker cover you have to be careful as they have been known to melt piston especially if not serviced regularly and any type of remapping. The was addressed with the 208 THP engine in the later cars post 2015 with forged pistons.

Hello brother I have a 2013 208 GTi with 117,000 miles and as been fairly well looked after I have just replaced the turbo as well as Vanos, EGR value and Boost Solidnoid... Form your video it does look like head has gone. Certainly get it too a garage see what they think but love this video. And they are wicked cars when everything works 🤣

Fun Fact : 208 GTI's have a facelift (I thinbk 2015) as the previous builds have big issues (HPFP fails and others etc.) , on the forums you always hear the pre facelifts crying (rightfully so tbh) and post not complaining anywhere near as much. Great video though =) I've had mt gti for 2 years now, new suspension, exhaust, engine pipes/BoV and other mods done, loving it so far :)

And yes 2K seems about right to sell, Pugs don't hold their value, aren't popular for car enthusiasts :P

Looking to get a down pipe and new 02 sensors on mine as the cat perished prematurely for a 16 plate. Anyone else had front suspension issues and leaky oil cooler ?

Fix it lad then you can do head gaskets and make some money on some more cars it’s good to be able to do
@abdullahisadiq41657 ай бұрын
id do a proper flush first get all the oil flushed out use a decent flush like millers, then do a proper coolant flush through the hoses and radiator. could of previsously had the head replaced but sll the shit is stillin the engine happened to me when i flushed it all went away. plus its not only the head gasket that causes oil and coolant to mix could be a faulty oil cooler but most likely is the head. best to get all the shit out of the engine otherwise the rest of the engine will get damaged leaving the mixed oil/coolant in there.

Yeah well give it a go and take it from there but it is most likely the head gasket appreciate it 👊

Lesson learnt, they’re nice cars though but just money pits 👌
