@@St8Genesiswow, you have absolutely no respect for the work. It truly has absolutely nothing to do with the money and everything to do with the craft. It is literally a dying art because of the ridiculous loss of respect for the hard work and effort that goes into one piece. Not everything should be immediate. The very best things in life come at a great cost that takes an enormous amount of time. My prayer is that my pearl was not just wasted.

@@souldancersbyjenniferI made a blown glass fish once at a lesson given by professional glass blowers. The thing that surprised me most was the intense heat radiating out of the furnace! I have burned myself with molten sugar while making candy, but the difference in temperature is so dramatic, it’s the difference between night and day! With candy you are burned badly if the molten sugar touches your skin. With glass blowing the air around you is so hot you feel like you’re in the furnace! I can’t imagine if I had touched the molten glass, or even the tools for that matter! However, if you ever have the opportunity to try it, go for it! It is the closest thing to alchemy I have ever experienced 😊

When people see an inanimate object, they often say something like, “that’s just stuff and you don’t need more stuff.” But they’re not understanding how much human creativity and ingenuity goes into every single thing on this earth. Say what you will about wealthy people, but they support microcosm economies. For every yacht, for every fancy restaurant, for every beautiful pair of expensive shoes there are hundreds… Thousands… Maybe even more people behind producing all of that from ingredients to raw materials to designs to construction. It’s all quite magical !

Seriously though. Spending that kind of money on a paper weight honestly seems wicked to me. Think how much good could be done for someone with just $4000. That could truly change someone's direction in their life. Could give them the car they've needed to get going or get their bills paid or so many other good things that would last for eternity. These paper weights and all that are going to be burned up at the end of the world. What's the point of buying such expensive items when you understand they will be destroyed, no matter how much you love them or cherish them, they will be destroyed. So why even buy it in the first place? A $4000 paperweight really gets my point across. Because a rock from the ground, for free, could be used. So why not use that and give the money you would use in the paper weight to someone in need? You know those good deeds you would do for others, those deeds do not get destroyed at the end of the world. Those good deeds actually last forever. You will have always had done that good deed. Some would say oh you are paying for the people to make the item and you five them what they need by buying the paperweight. My answer to that is why has that person invested so much into such a vain art? They should not be supported because their work is useless. Make something thats actually useful with your skills. That's like a woodworking that could make tables, chairs, a house, but all they do is make toothpicks....a waste of a talent.

In this case, I don't think they were just trying to make something expensive per say, but it took so much labor, time, and craftsmanship and people want to be compensated for that. Look at all the tiny details of the beads and having to make many thin strands of glass and sticking them together. Tho I think this being over $1000 is too much. People also complain about fast factory junk and planned obsolescence things that fall apart too quickly. At least some crafts like these last generations.

There are people who have more money than they know what to do with. $14,000 is a $1. My cousin got married last year to a woman whose mom is a billionaire & wife is billionaire as she is an only child. The family has been in NYC real estate about a hundred years. The wedding was held on a huge property they own so that was free & they still managed to spend about 3million on the wedding not paying for an event location. There were numerous huge flower arrangements- some bigger than an SVU- done by famous florist that cost up to 50k for ONE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT. They are allegedly liberal rich people but there is no such thing in my opinion. 50k could change the trajectory of a persons life. It could be the difference of a person struggling & living near poverty their entire life to achieving a comfortable life (as long as the money is spent though fully). A private student loan of $50k cost nearly $150k after interest. If the 50k was used to pay one paying student debt off it would be like giving them $150k. Not to mention one less bill to pay which is one lesss thing to worry about this less stress & allows money to be saved which is a comfort to have a money if you need it

Soooo, you'd pass up a piece because somone said its an egg from Russia? Those atr 1000s of $$$$! Art work isnt less valuable because of a "name" its the art work that takes a certain skill to create! I have a fabulous "paperweight" by another glass blower artist and it fascinates me everytime I look at it. Stunning! I wish it was signed by the artist!

@@patslouka915First of all I didn't say anything about it being from Russia. That made no difference in my opinion. I wouldn't pay that much for a paperweight for three reasons. I don't have that much money to just buy a paperweight with, I have no use for paperweights, and I love in a car so it would be pretty dangerous for me to have a paperweight like those.

@@daniellemacdonald49 I was refering to "RussianEggs" which are just another example of art work named something simple, yet a beautiful. There doesnt need to have a function to be a collectable. If you dont choose to buy one cus you dont have the money thats different. Neither do I nor a lot of others. But the piece is beautiful. I was given that "paper wieght" blown work by a friend. Not only a beautiful piece of art work but sentimental cus of who gave it. My point is its not just a paperweight. Its much more. If you dont care for the way it looks then thats just it. Art work is an investment that increases in value ( or ought to). It doesnt need to have a function. If I were to ever buy one of these it'd certainly would be for display only. Rocks work well for functional pprwts. Not a 5 or 6 figure (as in thousands of $) piece that could be damaged by use.

I'd take a rock 🪨 from outside, tell my kid to paint it and call it day😅. Now that memory will be priceless and at the end of the day it's also a decor/paperweight with a meaningful value too.

way more than just 5 artists know how to do this. I took a glass blowing class at Tennessee Tech and all of the instructors know how to make these. One had made one where those little bits of glass were all tiny bees. it was insanely intricate.

These are GORGEOUS! I’ve never been much of one for “paperweights” in general, but these are pieces of ART, and not just some desk piece.

Fun fact: if it has any defects, like cracks, the price drops significantly. That's how I got mine for only 100$. The defect isn't that bad , but the saved money are huge

I remember growing looking at these because my mother used to collect them. Of course they weren't as expensive back then but still my mother saved here an there and each 4 or 5 years would add another to her collection. She immigrated to the US from the UK by herself at 16. To me the thousand flowers represent all the kindness and sacrifices she made for her children and family beautifully arranged and encapsulated in glass to be a constant reminder.

Curlin is the best! I remember as a 10th grader; having to up and leave my small country hometown and move with my dad to Ft. Lauderdale. Culture shock, and no friends at school. Nobody even talked to me until I joined track 6 months into it. I was sad and alone. But I had always loved horse racing. Curlin has such an incredible standout horse. His heart, speed and strength are incredible. He’s been a legend to me ever since. Watching this race is a core memory for me
