@@thomaswhitten2537 This has been my main concern for years. Just the fact they keep even our deleted data on multiple servers around the world that can be accessed by law enforcement whenever they want.🤬☠ Even though it's not likely, it's still a total violation of our privacy knowing it's never completely gone.

I downloaded my file right before I deleted my account. I was blown away at how free and open I was as a teenager with my freaking posts, including going as far as to post my phone number. Seeing myself as a Facebook statistic is what started me down the path of securing my online privacy. In an age where information is the most valuable currency, what’s the best solution to prevent malicious use and manipulation? Government regulation? A universal “declaration of online rights?” It seems like more countries are becoming addicted to the power that comes with such intimate knowledge of their citizenry. I don’t see how we solve it.

Great point. We often forgot how we used to use social media a decade ago, how free we felt with our information, and it often comes back to bite us.

I was absolutely shocked to see how much was in my "off-facebook" data. Apps I used to have on my phone, plenty of sites I've visited and had no idea they were sending data to fb. Especially one website that blogged about privacy and sold privacy tools. So rude, eh?!. Great video, very eye opening. :)

This is what mean. I've never had an account, never been to the webpage and went so far as to block the site at my router for a while. My last two routers didn't have that feature. Still, I know for certain that I'm all over FaceBook since as early as 2007 or earlier, mostly because of in-laws but more importantly because everyone (businesses) is sharing your information without letting you know they will do that.

It's best to just not go to FB at all for about 1.5 years. The net goes on...and on. The FB algorithm forgets you pretty well if you just stay away-if you change phone numbers, addresses, employers and cell phones. Covert actions n attitudes go a LONG way towards keeping yourself anonymous.

BTW, totally off-topic, but last June I bought a new laptop, installed Firefox and TOR. TOR browser saved me a lot of trouble because I was uninstalling bloatware and I forget if it was MS-Office, McAfee or Adobe Flash, but some necessary OS files relating to System32 were removed that rendered Firefox inert, wouldn't open webpages. I was able to search the error message, that Firefox kindly offered up, using TOR and the fix was to install some software from Microsoft that had the necessary files. It's cool that TOR doesn't need these files. I think the software I had to install had something to do with programming in C++.

@@AllThingsSecured I think I recall now that it was Lastpass bloatware that removed a couple of dll files when I attempted (and failed) to remove it. And it was installing MS Visual C++ Redistributable (x64) that I learned was recommended for reinstalling the missing files. If I can recreate the scenario I should drop into a couple of popular forums discussing the "why my firefox won't open webpages" question and mention my experience.

One of the points I’m trying to make, though, is that Facebook will track you even if you don’t have an account. So in my opinion, I’d rather have an account where I can monitor the data they collect and tell them what they can do with it.

Went through my profile a few months ago and deleted most personalia, restricted access to the remaining info to friends, and deleted every photo I've uploaded. Nobody else is likely to care about my old holiday photos, and I already got them on my local storage drive and on an encrypted backup drive, so there's absolutely no reason for them to be on there. I also considered removing tags of me in other people's photos, but that would make it pretty difficult to hunt down any pictures of me if I'd want to request their removal in the future.
