I have a 944 too! Amazing car!! Really fun to drive. A disease of this car is that the glass of the hatch seperates from the trim around it. So check for that. You replaced the struts and those can push the glas from the trim around it. Could also be the problem for why the hatch is leaking.
@qtrfoil2 жыл бұрын
Yep, I think it's probably the glass delaminating from the frame. As you said, the struts push up and stress the glass away from the frame and it's really hard to keep them reglued.

Step sister bought one of those. It was a cool looking little car she bought used but it was a lemon and I think eventually she traded it towards I think a brand new Tercel that was a great car that eventually got stolen from her driveway a few years later. She then ended up with a 4 door 90 something Civic that she drove for a long time. She didn't have much luck with cars at first. I seem to remember those things weren't super reliable but at the time they looked really cool and had nice features. Don't think I ever knew anybody with a 944 but I did try to install a stereo in a early production 928. Thing was cool and very fast but it had so many issues with everything in the wiring we touched we walked away from it before everything fell apart. Porsche dealer warned us about the car when we called to get some information on the issues we were having. I think it was a 79 and so early production it was practically a prototype so was a mess.

Your hatch may be leaking between the frame and the glass. It’s very common for the glass to separate from the top of the frame due the poor design of the struts literally pushing the glass away from the top of the frame when closed. The only way to fix it properly is cut the glass out of the frame and redo the urethane.

You forgetting one of the most important pieces on this vehicle and that is the back up DME. Do not underestimate this this engine computer going bad at the worst time which can leave you stranded. I had change my crank sensors or Reference sensors as you call them, I also changed the DME relay and the car was s sporadically not starting. finally deduced it down to the actual DMe which was corroded and that seemed to fix the problems. Then I put an aftermarket coil one and I change it over to a racing chip in that made a huge difference. My 87 944 has 202000 miles and still runs pretty well. Same color. I just now am going to swap with a 924s from the same year and change the transmission brackets over swap them, we keep driving the car

JR as a former owner of a 944 I URGE you to replace that timing belt. It will run great and just fail with no warning. Once it fails you’ll damage every valve. That’ll end up costing you a bundle. Also check the wiring under the dash for brittleness in the insulation. Another little issue that will end up costing you the car. Otherwise enjoy and drive it regularly to keep everything lubed and running tip top.

The rear seal is fine. That's a feature that Porsche put in to help keep the rear of the car clean. Unfortunately it appears that your sunroof system isn't working so you're going to have to keep the front area of the interior clean yourself unless you fix it so that it allows water in. Seriously, they all leak eventually. It's a common issue with Porsche.
@zenmervolt4 жыл бұрын
Leak at the top of the hatch is often from the glass delaminating from the aluminum hatch frame. New rubber seals may not fix it. If it has delaminated, repairs are a pain and as far as I know no-one has found a guaranteed way to be sure the repairs will last - it's apparently a bit of a crap-shoot.

I had an argument with fellow 944 people recently, while I would replace it at this point, a 30-40k mile interval is a little crazy. My Audi V8 belt has a 75k interval with 4 cams and a 7k redline, Hondas are what 90-100k. I think it has just gotten blown out of proportion. Modern rubber belts I don't see why doing a 70-80k would be detrimental.
