The French handmade "savoir-faire". Still a tradition and alive. Hope if will continue in our modern "standard world". Good short documentary.

As much as I admire the skill and artiststry they have, I will never buy anything from Maison Bourgeat or Maison Bonnet for continuing to use real tortoise shell. They might be old stock but their willingness to keep using them is immoral when compared to other design houses.

in fairness, you were never going to buy anything from them regardless, you just wanted to virtue signal. you willingness to pretend to be a potential customer just to disparage them is pretty transparent and sad.

@@icemonkeyfist Nope you are totally wrong there. I'm getting Cubbits to make my bespoke glasses. Don't presume you know anything about me or my circumstances.

@@anon-ed5wf I judge you by your comment. if you are not that sort of person, you need to rethink your comments. you responded like an insincere virtue signaler. if you were as you purport to be, then you would not have bother to post such a trivial statement. this idea that you are so self important that you think that your one decision to not purchase from them has any consequence as a protest.... almost everyone doesn't purchase from them! they are a niche producer; they are not Bud Light. you say I am wrong, but having money doesn't make you any less cloying, so I think my assessment was more correct than you will admit. be honest... you were never considering using them, right?

@@anon-ed5wf also...other design houses would still use the material if they had any. kinda they point... they don't. so easy to say you won't use a material that you can't. nobody threw out their stock, they just ran out, or entered the market too late.

@@icemonkeyfist If you look back at their history, the only reason they were allowed to keep using natural tortoise shell was because Francois Mitterand used his influence as President of France to make an exception for them when there was a worldwide ban because he liked tortoise shell. Only design houses within France use it for this reason. You don't see any design houses working with real ivory (not the fossilised crap) and most major designers wouldn't touch real fur from non domesticated animals with a barge pole. Your argument that everyone would be using it if they could source it is incorrect. On the whole most people in the world have some priciples and they stand by them. If you don't, then your argument is understandable. There are those who don't care about anything or anyone else as long as they get what they want by whatever means. If that is perfectly acceptable to you, then you someone for whom personal greed overrides all principles in life. Don't fall under the illusion that repeating your comment over and over again, it makes it any more true. Any sensible person can clearly see from this thread that your assessment of me is incorrect but on the other hand, your comments portray a pretty clear picture of what sort of person you really are: I don't need to spell it out.

After all, it has nothing to do with how the lenses are made or how people with poor eyesight can benefit from the technique. But, more about how people who have too much money can strengthen their ego.

there are plenty of companies and charities who serve those people already. Is your sense of entitlement so strong that you believe every company can only exist to serve your priorities and not to make what they choose to to the segment of the market they choose? talk about ego.... some people want glasses for utilitarian reasons and others want something more. people are not all the same.
