Here’s My 7-Step Checklist to Retire Early

I want to retire early, so I stopped contributing on my 401K the max and stick to the match contribution. Now, my super hero account is bigger than my 401K and growing much more because I have better investments options stocks/etf's than the 401k options. If you want to retire early, a super hero account is a must.

i'm 56 and have goal to retire at 57. learning a lot in last few months as i last-minute plan. i think i'm in a good spot, but it's still hard to pull the trigger. (120 day notice required.) i put "fun money" into a superhero account - and, in less than 20 years it's become quite a lovely amount. and i mostly didn't touch it. mostly bought it and forgot it. that study is right! it should tide me over til my RMD's (in 18 years._ . so may be able to do some roth conversions. will take soc security at 70. the funny thing is, i keep feeling guilty that i'm "retiring young." then i have to remind myself- 57 isn't "young"-- time to grow up! i have about 1/2 my nest egg in pre-tax, 1/2 my nest egg in post-tax. i think that's a pretty sweet spot. wish i had more roth, but my income (and single status) wouldn't allow it. and i couldn't do back-door roth because i have a big rollover IRA i don't feel like converting yet. such first world problems, i know! but having fun learning about all this!

My 401k summary does not list the rule of 55 as one of the offered means of fund distribution. It lists everything else like transfer to an IRA, loans, etc.

Love the software Ari - got it a few weeks ago. Was hoping to retire at 62 in two years but probabilities go way up if I wait for 65. One question. My house is paid off and worth about $1.5 million. In 30 years, with an appreciation rate of 3% annually, it would be worth about $3.6 million. Outside of a reverse mortgage (with that terrible negative amortization) or selling, any ideas on how to tap that equity to improve retirement. We don't plan to move.

Take a loan out. Say a million dollars then just have to pay a monthly payment. Then you can pay off when sell house

Are there really people who have real estate income, don’t know what their SS income will be and can’t rough out what their savings can yield them. I really like those who still earn at least a little into their 70’s. It’s not about never working, it’s about working at something you enjoy. Then it’s not work.
