When I was little I would bring my Mickey Mouse stuffed animal with me to Disney world, but would leave him behind in the room so I didn’t lose him. I always found it funny when I would come into the room, and Mousekeeping had done something to show what Mickey had ‘done’ while I was gone. We come back one day he’s wearing my light up Mickey ear hat, we come back another he’s got my DS in front of him, implying he had been playing video games all day XD to this day I still find it cute when they do that and I loved it when I was little

As a foreigner the idea of tipping causes me anxiety...when on holiday you’re already on a budget you dont want to tip too much but you also dont want to tip too little. Why cant employers just pay their staff the correct amount for the work they do rather than making them rely on tips :-(
@ShalmendoGlineux5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Capitalists have normalized putting the burden of paying wages partly onto the customers! This allows them to pay much less to those hard working people, expecting the customers to pick up the burden. Unfortunately tipping is viewed very differently by different people, and some may think they're tipping well, when they're actually under tipping, and the general variances involved mean a lot of these tipped staff have to find other jobs to make ends meet. I personally feel like this should be abolished and workers should be paid decent wages to begin with instead of needing to beg customers to slip them an extra dollar or two to help pay the rent and feed their kids.
@maximilian92955 жыл бұрын
Only in certain states. In WA for example, waiters, everyone gets a living wage. So a waitress will earn 15 and tips. In so many places, it has become a requirement or you feel shame. Even when you do everything yourself people still expect 20%, even if the service was terrible. Getting out of the US for a little relieved so much anxiety about the tipping.
@carolk31855 жыл бұрын
I view tipping as a way to reward someone for doing a good job, or going above and beyond what was expected. Even the people that earn a living wage, eg hairdressers, dog groomers, should get a tip if they do a good job. Americans tip lots of professions, not just people we view as being underpaid. It’s kind of hard wired into us, but I can definitely see how it would be nerve wracking for someone not used to the idea.
@ShalmendoGlineux5 жыл бұрын
@@carolk3185 I agree with this, but it shouldn't be a REQUIRED part of making a livable wage...one should be able to live without needing to hope for tips each day that they may not get because their clientiele may not be dispositioned twoards tipping, or tipping very much. I once watched a waitress try not to cry when some jerk kept slipping dimes into her apron as 'tips' and then left no cash on the table. She must have made a dollar on tips from him.

As an widower, empty-nester, and now retiree going solo, a small room is not a problem. The room was nice and clean and the food court was fine the 2 times I ate there. I use Magical Express from/to the airport and Disney bus system to get around (oh yeah, and MONORAIL! . . . sorry, my squirrel! moment) so I don't have to deal with a car. You’re more relaxed, you can go to your room anytime to rest, etc. It’s my favorite place in the world and I’m so lucky to live only 2 hours away. It’s what I save money to do as much as I can. I’m 58 years old and get just as excited as I did when I was a kid. It’s super expensive but, if you can swing it, it’s soooo worth it!!! I love the "Murphy bed that converts into a table" you mentioned at the beginning. I know you also mentioned the standalone bed is now a queen - is the Murphy also a queen, or a full/double? One of the reasons I adore OKW (a lot of people down it because it's the oldest) besides the "laid back" ambiance, and the ability to park outside your unit, is the size of the units!! I stayed years ago, with 4 adult females in a room at the BC, (I slept on a daybed), and that's the max Id want to put into that room, sharing the same bathroom. If I were to ever splurge, and stay at the Poly, I would DEFINITELY get the room service Ohana'! Just like years ago, when a freind and I splurged and spent 2 nights at AKL in a savannah view - we also splurged for room service breakfast to leisurely enjoy, and watch the animals - TOTALLY worth it - still a favorite WDW memory for me, all these years later! :) I'll say it for the billionth time - I STILL miss Bonfamille's Cafe at POFQ, especially for breakfast!!!

Something to keep in mind with all-star resorts being SO SPREAD OUT... we had a similar issue. I’m a person with a disability but we booked a room at all star movies. They gave us a mighty ducks room which as you know is super super far away from the lobby. We noticed that we were actually very close to the all star music resort and we wound up going over there for a lot of things including transportation and food. It 100% beat constantly walking all the way back to the lobby especially being disabled!

Coronado Springs is one that can have a very long walk from room to lobby. Much of the walk will be outside exposed to the elements.

On my first time at Disney World, I went to Old Key West, and let me tell you; It's nice. -There is a bathtub with jets. -A pull-out couch that is maybe queen size. -Balcony. -There are bus stops EVERYWHERE. It's so convenient. -There is a counter-service place near it called Good's Food To-Go, and everything there is so good. -There is also a restaurant there called Olivia's and the sweet tea there is PERFECT. The food there is awesome, and the staff is so friendly. -Boat Rides. The boat rides take you form the resort to Disney Springs. -There is a gift shop near the lobby. I think I covered it, but Old Key West is worth the money.

I'll forewarn anyone going in summer/stormy season what it's really like staying in a value resort, as I found this out to my detriment on my stay a couple of weeks ago. All the walkways are exposed the elements, so if it's absolutely pouring with rain, thundering and lightning outside, there is no way to get from your room to the food court without getting soaking wet (ponchos make no difference in that weather) or potentially endangering yourself by using an umbrella. Furthermore, the in-room food delivery won't come out in those conditions. So unless you want to eat your dinner soaking wet, you're going to bed hungry. BIG downside that NO ONE tells you. My recommendation if you can't afford more than a value (like me) - stay off site in a hotel that will provide actual room service when there is a storm!
@robertofenloch95955 жыл бұрын
Don't forget the bus stops. I stayed at Coronado Springs last time, the bus stop had benches and a covered roof to sit under while you waited. It's not like that at the All-Stars, so if it's bad weather outside and you're waiting for the bus...eek!

Disney resorts really are a little extra special from what I've seen... I've heard a lot of stories about how great they are. But I also want to point out something, not to be controversial or say AJ is wrong, but how much time will you actually spend awake and enjoying your hotel room? I guess I'm a super practical person because I don't put a lot of emphasis on how fancy or magical my room is, since I honestly am not going on a Disney vacation to enjoy the hotel rooms. There's A LOT more that's way more important, i.e. the parks themselves, restaurants, etc, and I really only go to the room to relax or sleep, so having an amazing (and probably expensive) room isn't going to be particularly useful. Every room provides the same basics; a place to sleep, a functional bathroom, housekeeping, and so on. You're not going to stay up all night admiring the view you may have, or the design of the room, you're far more likely to SLEEP through most of your time there and be out doing stuff shortly after waking, dressing, and grooming. Not to say I'm incapable of enjoying a fancy room, I just don't think it's worth paying SO MUCH! You could save that money and go eat at a restaurant or maybe buy an event ticket instead. Granted some people will probably appreciate the fancier rooms far more then I would, and I think that's perfectly fine. It's really down to what will make YOU (and your family) happy! If you want to spend the extra money on a fancier room, go ahead! If it makes you and yours happier to put more of your budget to it, that's what matters. Personally, I'd rather spend some of that money on a souvenir or an extra experience or something. But if the room is an important part of your experience, go for it! I'm mainly pointing out that the room's purpose is mainly for sleeping and you likely won't be spending a full day in your room, barring sickness or exhaustion (and in that state you may not care how fancy the room is anyway). You COULD save a decent amount of money and have some extra budget as a result to spend on other things you may find more important, so consider those details when you're pondering whether you just want or actually NEED a bit of extra square footage, or the fancy theme of a pirate/royal room, etc. Kids will probably enjoy those details more then most adults who could see that getting a cheaper room leaves more money for other things. Kids can certainly make a huge difference in this and a little extra floor space could make a difference between bored kids and a place to put down some painters tape for some Hot Wheels roadways to keep them busy, or they might feel the Disney magic was even more special when their room was so well decorated. On another note, for families, booking a room with a kitchenette or other ability to store and prepare food could actually save a decent amount of money if you're willing to do the cooking and everything involved. I know lots of people want to get away from the daily grind, including making meals, so this may not be very enticing, but if you can buy groceries and make your own dinners (anytime, even, no getting in late and feeling like there's no where to eat) you can save a good amount of money compared to all restaurants all the time. If the rules allow it, I could see myself bringing a small induction cook top and a pan to make eggs each morning or something so I don't have to rent a room with a full kitchenette. It's a totally personal decision, but again I personally feel like the money could be better spent elsewhere and wanted to give some of my reasoning so hopefully someone could see my points and potentially see the value in going for a cheaper room and using that money in a different area of their budget instead. Like I said, I don't see a point in paying for such a fancy room when you're really only going to be sleeping there for the most part. But it's still a very personal decision.

Fort wilderness was the bomb for us when our family of 6 went. Mousekeeping did an awesome job and they even put the dishes in the dish washer for us. We loved it so much that when we go back in 2021 for the youngest granddaughters birthday, we are going to stay there again. With any luck we can get the same cabin. BTW The fold out bed was so comfortable that we found similar mattress at Mattress one as the bed in a box. Things were pretty close to where we were and they do have onsite laundry that is next to the pool. If you are going to the main park, just take the boat there and you wont have to worry about catching that bus. Transportation at this site is timed very well so your not waiting anymore than 15min for the next bus. The most important thing is that we NEVER ran out of hot water in the cabin.

4:50 - Re: "Charge more if you have more than 2 adults". This is actually a good idea since sneaking other adults into your room doesn't mean their magic bands will get them in and out of the room, in or out of the locked hallway doors at some resorts, the pool areas, etc. If you think you're going to sneak extra people in (1) Disney knows you're doing this, I don't know how, but they always do, and (2) You're going to have to co-ordinate with someone to always be getting the door and/or swapping magic bands, which really isn't a practice you should engage in. Just pay for the extra adults like an honest person and spend your time NOT looking over your shoulder. I spent 2 weeks resort hopping at WDW last January and will be spending another week later this month doing the same thing. In all cases, I'm paying for extra guests when I have 2 more staying with us. More money, less headaches.
@QueenSelene885 жыл бұрын
Also, that's a hotel standard. I don't know any hotel that doesn't charge extra if you have more than the base guests quantity.

How would they have Magic Bands if they’re not registered Disney Resort guests in the first place?
@robertofenloch95955 жыл бұрын
There actually is a flaw in that system that I could see exploited. It says they might charge more if there's more than two adults, but not kids. So if there's three adults, you could probably put one of them down as a kid to avoid the extra fee. Unless this can be fixed somehow. I'm a solo traveler, so I wouldn't know the ins and outs of the reservation systems.

Staying at a fort wilderness cabin has lots of benefits, especially if you get one close to a pool. You can take the ferry to the magic kingdom, which is cool in and of itself. The bus system is very easy to use. There’s a silly 70’s light show on the lagoon, you can see the fireworks from the dock, they show outdoor movies, there’s a campfire singalong, etc, etc. There’s a full kitchen and an outdoor grill with picnic table. There’s a canteen that sells stuff like frozen pizzas and easy to prep meals. If you have kids, I highly recommend you check it out!

We really appreciated being moved, so always ask if you’re not happy. We had a great experience after this and the service was fantastic.

As a Central Floridian who's stayed in the hotels, I'd say it's worth it as long as you're travelling from farther away and you don'd mind blowing a bit of money for the "full experience". But there are also resorts outside of Disney that offer great (and cheap) Disney park packages, as well as packages for the other theme parks in the area like Universal Studios and SeaWorld.

I stayed at Pop the day before my cruise. The room esp bathroom seemed "tired" but I hear they have had a complete overhaul since then so I don't know.
