Hi there, How do you compare the quality of the microfoam Breville vs the Musica? Not in terms of speed but quality?
@TheCoffeeField2 жыл бұрын
Same. The only microfoam quality difference I ever noticed was with a LaMarzocco and Synesso machines. Super dry and the milk is more velvety than anything else. Outside of that, microfoam from most machines taste the same to me. Hope this helps.

James Hoffman said, if you don't want to make espresso as a hobby, then don't gdt am espresso machine. And being a hobbyist, we can be more particular and panaroid with little things than the professionals. And Breville DB allows us to correct those little small things. Good choice dude. BTW, a friend used it in a cafe. 118shots of double per day with BDB + Fiorenzato F64 is his record.

Good review. I just upgraded a coffee machine from arissto to breville 920 for a good friend of mine who's also a cafe owner. I'm thinking of buying a musica but upon seeing your review I guess I have to consider buying a breville machine too. Awesome vid! Thanks! I have an Oscar 2 with OPV+ Pressurestate and I hate it for the same reasons! I can't see the pressure, the pain of flushing..etc. I hate e61 machine for the same reasons, which also means temperature instability even with PID (needing to off set the brew boiler vs what reaches the grouphead)..etc. I started looking for double boilers options and an upgrade that would satisfy me for at least 5 years (Oscar been with me for 2yrs already and it is my first machine, which I think it is a great beginner machine TBH). Here's my short list: - BDB for the same reasons you mentioned, stainless steel boilers, which means lower risk of scale, having a considerable social media support from other buys online, you can easily modify it to do slayer-like-pressure-profiling, and having a heating element on the grouphead to ensure stability (unlike the outdated E61 group). However, I hated the fact it is an appliance, which means in it probable won't last, weak steaming power compared to the Oscar 2, vibration pump, and it seems you should not use their back flushing feat as it will burn the grouphead or grouphead heating element (I can't remember but I am sure if you youtube it you will find it and also many mentioned it in the comments), and most importantly, the Volumatric feature doesn't work as it should be and it is probably is time based like the oscar (there is a vid on youtube and the have changed the machine for that guy but the same issue of inconsistency). - La Spaziale Mini Vivaldi or Dream: I like it is not an E61 machine, rotary pump version, huge supporters online (in fact, there is an entire forum dedicated to it), they say the temp is really stable and no need to offset like e61 machines, and strong steaming power and recovery time. I don't like: the ridiculous portafilter size, which means limited accessories, eye sore, a pain to access it's internals, unclear if the boilers are stainless steel and if insulated or not. - Lilet Bianca: Pressure profiling and sturdy. I don't like: adding a water faucet (no matter how fancy you call it, it is sill a faucet lol) to and outdated machine doesn't justify the ridiculous price! e61 grouphead, and brass boilers! - Chinese slayer knock-off, which seams very decent and reasonably priced for a modern designed machine but of course no slayer pressure profiling, though it is a simple flow restrictor and I reckon it won't add much to the cost lol, and having to manually stop the shot. It seems not much options out there... and the search continues lol

Great video. This past November I bought a Rocket Giotto but the shipment took over a month to arrive and in that time I had second thoughts mainly due to the price. So, when it arrived, I turned it back. Now, having had a few weeks to mull things over I am leaning to the Breville Dual Boiler. You’re right - it completely ticks every box. The only hesitation I have is that I owned a lower end Breville espresso machine about 6-8 years ago and it only lasted 3 years before it blew a hose of some sort and leaked all over my counter. The shop I bought it from said it couldn’t be repaired so I literally threw it away. Nervous about that with getting another Breville but I think this one is in another league from that previous one I had. What say you so far reliability-wise?
@TheCoffeeField3 жыл бұрын
Reliability is really not that bad considering the price point. Frankly any machine that deals with water, heat and steam will eventually have issues and require parts. This is applicable to much more expensive machines as well, especially the ones with similar features. You could also buy an extended warranty if some sort on it for some additional peace of mind.

the current musica has the gigleurs installed. you should not need a long cooling flush. musica is a single boiler. temperature is directly proportional to boiler temperature. the musica once you get used to it, its looks good and works well. buy the ones with the professional pack installed. if you are looking at a bdb, might as well go for a proper db like the ecm synchronica. you wont regret it. rotary pmp, dual boiler.. etc.. the machnes are built like a tank. buy for a long term investment. not for plastic components.

I think the whole "appliance grade" versus "machine grade" argument is something proliferated by Seattle Coffee Gear to distinguish between machines that are thrown away when they break (appliance grade) or repaired (machine grade). In my opinion, the inside of the BDB looks repairable so maybe that makes it machine grade. The BDB also has the ability to pressure profile shots(via modding), which is something only very high end machines, like the Slayer, can do. Anyway, I just picked up my Musica 3 weeks ago after I learned about it through your videos. LOL, didn't know you had already stopped recommending it. I saw on the coffee forums that you were having some issues with volumetric dosing on the Musica. How does the BDB do with their volumetric dosing versus the Musica?
@TheCoffeeField4 жыл бұрын
k1fizz I still think the Musica is a good machine, assuming you don’t care about seeing or controlling the temp and pressure of the shot. I don’t use the volumetric shots on the BDB. Recently I’ve been changing coffees all the time and trying different roasters so having the volumetric button won’t help
