I have the WesternDigital Black 1TB SSD for my ps5 and it works great. Also it was a bit cheaper. As long as you’re within the stats that they recommend, the brand shouldn’t matter as much. Especially as time goes on and prices drop

The easiest way to pull the cover off is to put it in your lap with the disc side up while sitting down. The bottom (when it's in vertical orientation) presses into your stomach. Then simply pull the top panel into your stomach as you pry it up by its Seto Kaiba collar. Took virtually no force to do this.

Great video with clear instructions as always. I went with the Gigabyte AORUS 2TB drive late last year and it's been fantastic. I run all my PS5 games from there and it too runs faster than the internal drive! Always worth shopping around for the best deals (especially as prices seem have dropped a lot right now), but if you can afford it it's well worth upgrading your storage :)

In my area, the Aorus 7000s has the best deals in all models while the others are mostly overpriced. The performance between the 7000s and the Firecuda 530 are exactly identical in the PS5 so I’d rather choose the cheaper one and not waste my money in extra read speed that cannot be put into use.

@@jtsmjkingofpop3872 from my experience it did not do that, because where your games are is probably inside the console where as the SSD port is just outside the secondary casing. All you do is install the SSD and turn on your system, go to storage and you should easily be able to transfer your games straight to the SSD

I hope like heck the PS5 add-on SSDs fare better than the official XSX memory expansion because for all the hoopla about the Xbox expansion being less of a gamble and proven working it has given me and others headaches with crashing games running off the expansion storage.

The reason the XSX has issues is because it's a external SSD not internal so the speeds are like 1/4 what ps5 can do with a ssd

@@Jactional my assumption is that it connects to the motherboard just the same way the PS5 expansion m.2 does. I’d also guess that it runs hotter since it’s in that compact enclosure despite the SX metal interior frame acting as additional heatsink for those expansion m.2. Maybe it’s the heat or the slow speed that causes crashing although PS5 has plenty of games which crash too. I’ll have to take OP at his word that he’s isolated the crashing to his external m.2 compared to his internal m.2

I am very happy with my WD Black that got for €90 that work very well ever do it was lots hard to put in that I thought I if people say do zip zag to open PS5 thinking would open fast. Also, two screws were hard in different sizes everybody say you need one screwdriver. But guess worth it if get most of the speed.

I would probably add a thermal pad between the heatsink and the cover to get rid of the heat more effectively, though it likely isn‘t needed at all. This is assuming the cover is not steel, if it is steel there is no point as it has kinda poor thermal transfer.

Curious about the fire cuda. 1 tb is plenty really unless you’re like me and lose interest in games every few weeks. Bought this and it works great. Only issue I've had is with game The Forest - kept crashing when installed on the Firecuda, so I installed it on the original drive instead and it worked fine. Not sure why, but anyway - everything else works fine and you definitely need the extra storage space - especially with how much storage gets eaten up by the "other" category (my "other" is now at 80 gigs)

Will this allow ps5 games to actually be downloaded to it and be playable off it instead of having to download it onto the console storage? I have a hard drive (4tb) works perfectly fine on my ps5 tho it does not allow ps5 games onto it so I have to use console storage, so I just wanted to make that this allows me to download ps5 with no issues, and if just a compatible hard drive for ps5 Is good to, (ps4/ps5 compatible hard drive)

I'm...a stupid person and for some reason thought these SSDs were replacing the SSD already in the PS5. And i was wondering why everyone was spending almost $200 to well over $200 for just ~200-300 more GB of usable storage space over the base SSD. Now it makes way more sense and I'm going to be more seriously considering these. Thanks for the video.

I do know someone who has chucked in his 4TB drive into his PS5 when he sold his GPU and was unable to get a new one. He cleared his so it works fine. The thing about storage is that there isn't really a limit to how much you can chuck in. Its literally used to store data so adding more never really hurts, and if it does you could just get a refund and get a smaller one.

I use the Sabrent Rocket 4 plus and while usually games do load faster off it, that, the firecuda and the sn850 only have 8 channel memory as opposed to the PlayStation’s 12 channel memory. Some games are built around those extra memory channels, like TemTem for instance, even on the 7gb/s ssd, it’s runs significantly worse, with very frequent framerate issues. Runs fine when installed on the ps5 though.

That was deciding factor for me since it allowed me to pay $70/mo vs. the $300+ price tag all at once. I've been waiting for SSD prices to drop and finally just pulled the trigger on a Firecuda 530 2TB for £122. 1TB would have easily worked for me, but game files get larger into a consoles life cycle and I'll hopefully be able to use it when next gen comes around. My 980 Pro sucked. It's speeds were only 5500MB/s. After researching, it requires a firmware upgrade to reach 6000+. So you'd better have a PC with an extra NVMe compatible M.2 slot handy. I didn't (because I have a SATA M.2 as a primary boot drive), so I returned that crap! I'd avoid the hassle and buy Firecuda, which worked straight out the box for me..

The XPG has a 1TB comes and with heatsink. It was the first SSD Hard drive marketed for the ps5. Has 7400/6400 read and write speed (so faster than both you suggested. They are $139.99 Canadian or $239 Cad for a 2TB. So it beats both those. I've had mine in from the day it was released, and not even a single issue. Honestly I use it as my main drive. I find it faster than the PS5s SSD. So you might wanna do some more research the price does fluctuate but not for long!!! it's usually that price it might go up 30-40 CAD and that's still cheaper, But it also might go down. I have a buddy that paid like double for the Samsung SSD and he says it crashes all the time and loses files. But I have heard good things about the Sabrent PS5 SSD. With it though you have to pay again almost 1.5x the price plus $24.99 USD for the matching heatsink. I do have to admit the heatsink for looks far better but you don't see it anyway 🤷. So if your looking For a good PS5 SSD interna M.2 SSD drive I wouldn't look further than the XPG. Specifically designed for the PS5 and comes with the heatsink. So those 2 aren't the only amazing and best Internal M.2 SD hard drives for the ps 5 internal SSDs so do research better!!! ;)

@@blarkee I'd just type something like "2tb ssd heatsink" and see what options pop up. You can replace the 2 with any size you want. Just make sure it has a heatsink. If you want to find the xpg one then type "2tb xpg ssd heatsink". Replace the 2 with any size you want. I'd recommend at least 2tb. I personally would stick to WD (western digital). Their reliability is apparently the best (read a report a long time ago and they easily beat out every other brand), they always go on sale, and they're pretty much top of the line.

For anyone who doesn’t care about the drawback a external Hard drive is a good option too. If your planning on still playing ps4 games or don’t mind shifting over ps5 games from the hard drive to the ssd I’d say it’s a good idea then. Also I bought my external hard drive when I had a ps4 so I wouldn’t exactly go out and spend $100 or more on one now but if you can find a good deal or already have one I don’t see a real need for an SSD quite yet since there isn’t much games for the ps5
