Honestly I feel the same way about AE86s. In high school I got my GTS hatch for $4500, now they're all $15k and it makes me a little sad to see. Good thing tho is soon I'm going to graduate as a computer engineer and I should be able to save for one outright as soon as I get a job. You can bet your ass I'm going to be holding onto mine for as long as possible. Even when I have kids there is no way in hell I'm giving up that AE86. The AE86 community is super tight knit and often times AE86 owners sell each other parts for the same price they got them back in the day without letting others outside that circle buy in. I find that kinda beautiful and I even did the same when I had my parts. I sold a GTS front end I had for $200 to a well respected guy within the community and I hope I can get back in the game soon

However it wasn't Paul Walker's Nissan Skyline GTR R34 from "2 Fast 2 Furious" or "Fast & Furious". Last time I checked, those prices on popular cars like for example the Nissan Skyline GTR R34 and Toyota MK4 Supra are basically supercar aka exotic car prices if you think about it.

When a a semi-affordable sports car becomes a collector vehicle things have gotten out of hand. Being the owner of a collector car I can say that it's actually not very enjoyable. I prefer to drive than than store and appreciate.

Absolutely and it's such a struggle for an enthusiast because even if you paid very little for the car, the fact that it is appreciating makes you second guess every mile you put on it, and that's heartbreaking when these cars are so good to drive.

As much as I have loved the A80 as a kid, I feel that the internet has really ruined the car for me especially how overrated it is and how its value has skyrocketed At least right now, Toyota has brought back the new Supra in collaboration with BMW and yes it is not something based on the A80 but this is indeed a spiritual successor to the 2000GT, the grandfather of the Supra hopefully I get to drive one and maybe own one

For anyone that is feeling pretty bad about not being able to get one- a BMW E46 is somewhat like a German Supra. The best part is that they're accessible as well, just need to weld the rear subframe mounts and reinforce the strut towers and they can handle a good amount of power. M50 intake, an M56 valve cover, and ARP head studs and they can handle 8-16 PSI for a good time (really dependent on the tune and how you drive). You will highly enjoy the steering and the way it feels through corners, they have steering sensitive racks that don't overboost- they feel like driving a car with no power steering that has a high gear ratio. Just leave some for me lol. TL;DR: E46 (maybe even E90, but they're expensive and have electrical issues) are somewhat like German supras, just are much harder to make as much power with due to the Aluminum block and head, and piss poor cooling system. Rebuild it once you buy and you won't have to worry about it for 5-8 years.
