Very valuable advice! I switched from Canon 5D mark IV to Canon R5 and struggled with the auto focus settings. I used to shoot single shot and recompose but the continuous mode was the answer with the auto focus eye tracking. Thank you!

Hi Kevin, great job with the video. I changed my approach to getting sharper photos by upping my shutter speed to 500 aperture to 5.6 and auto ISO. Made a big difference. I did introduce some noise, but my photos are much sharper.

Of all the advice given here, the most important is hand holding the camera. Of course, this depends on the height the photographer wants to take the photo (Head, chest, hips or knee height).

Thank you, Kevin and Kingston! This video was very informative for me. I'm 68 years old and have problems getting tack sharp photos. I've never thought about distance having anything to do with sharpness. Of the 6 lenses I own, 5 of them are zoom lenses, so I'm constantly zooming in rather than getting closer to the subject, and then wondering why my photos are soft! I bought a Canon R6 in June, and I am determined to use what I've learned in your video to achieve the results I desire. Thank you again!

Regarding autofocus settings, here's something I've never quite understood: As a wildlife photographer, I have my camera set to continuous autofocus 100% of the time, because obviously my subjects are usually moving. But even if my subject is motionless, or I'm shooting something like a flower that never moves, I still leave it on continuous autofocus, because why bother changing it? If it's in focus moving it'll still be in focus standing still, right? Or is there some advantage to one-shot autofocus that I'm missing?
@kevinraposo
@kevinraposo Жыл бұрын
Good question - for me, the significant benefit is the audible 'beep' and confirmation that your focus has been locked in successfully.
@rogergranquist
@rogergranquist Жыл бұрын
The biggest difference is the camera is constantly searching for any new focus setting it needs to adjust in real time with the continuous mode, so it can potentially become unreliable for a still image where it can “hunt” for focus and be out of focus when you take the picture. If you’ve had good success then that’s great, but with one time focus, you won’t risk it hunting when taking the picture. Also you can set focus and then even reframe with out it changing the focus too. I use that technique quite a bit as that’s easier to do than change what focus point it uses every time.
