My loans were forgiven, but now the state wants tax on 100% of the forgiven balance. But we all know Navient was sued for increasing balances through wrong doing...as well as wrong steering, etc,. Four states are demanding state tax. Can you start a class action law suit for us?

For a federal student loan called FAFSA, it is a double whammy. It shouldn't be forgiveness. The payment should be in full. You borrow, then you pay or take one class at a time. Nobody forces you to take a loan.

How does this impact those on the SAVE program who submitted a complaint for the 20 year loan forgiveness program (2003 or prior loans)?

I would guess very few will benefit from this and the tax payers will certainly not. More money we print the more inflation we have. It's absolutely insane what's going on.

I was originally enrolled in the income repayment plan and recently I was automatically put in the SAVE program. I’m single, no children but I don’t make 6 figures. Was SAVE the best option for me?
@nickt.7305
@nickt.7305 Ай бұрын
SAVE is likely best for you because you don’t make six figures. It may not be the best option if you don’t have a high loan balance and you could pay it off on the shorter standard plan.

I have a consolidated student loan. I went to multiple schools and one of them is Art Institute. I received the email that my loan will be forgiven. Will the entire balance be forgiven since the loan was consolidated? Thank you!
@DamnImWounded

Only the loan that was from the Art Institute will be forgiven despite having your loans consolidated. Your lender will have the paper trail aka receipts of everything. Also you may reach out to your current lender by calling them for more detail information.

I got the same email from dept of ed. They paused my payments until 2027 but nothing about when they’ll actually “forgive” the loans. I’m actually going to continue paying monthly because I don’t want to have more interest to accrue and I really don’t trust this forgiveness will ever happen.

Are you taking clients to file an action for proof of student loan payments. I have been paying since 1991 and my NSLDS is incorrect. I can't get the servicer to give me a spreadsheet that was kept with payments, interest, and amount owed for the period of 1991 to present. Unfortunately, I can't get my bank records from that far back. I have been on income contingent since 2009 and want my previous payments counted. I know it's crazy to sue because of legal fees, but I am willing to put the legal fees on my credit card. I can't retire with this hanging over my head. I'm just so tired and have a host of medical issues from age

I have undergrad Navient and AES loans and now grad school loans, I work in public service for 8 years. Should I consolidate and then submit paperwork for public service by June 30th?
@angelaserviss2262
@angelaserviss2262 Ай бұрын
Navient is now considered a private lender and no longer a federal lender. In order to have your loans considered for the one time adjustment, you will need to consolidate them by June 30th which make all of your loans federal and this eligible for the adjustment. To confirm, I would contact student aid.gov in their chat section.

@@plmcdonnell1 I am nearly 60 years old. I had two disabled parents. I was a single parent to an autistic, now 30 year old son who can’t work. I’ve never had a new car. I live in a 75 year old house with a leaky roof and extension cords running to the outlets that worked. We don’t do vacations. I’ve had forbearances in order to pay for medical bills and spent nearly 8 years in the wrong repayment plan for PSLF (retired teacher) thanks to Navient’s assurance I was in the right repayment plan. I want the life I never got to have instead of wanting to end it all due to stress. I will die with these loans if the IDR adjustment doesn’t happen, so enjoy all the “toys” you don’t want to pay for. Some of us never came close to having that opportunity despite giving back for so many years, and don’t worry about those of us who never had the opportunity.

Can someone here tell me why you think that I should have to take over all of your student debt. When you signed up for the loan did you not understand what the word “loan” means? I work for a living, pay my bills, own my home. I don’t use government handout money. But now my taxes go up to pay for lawyers student loans or students who got degrees that don’t lead to jobs. Can someone please justify this? Tell me why I should support this?

Do you understand the PSLF program was signed into law after ten years of payment in order to get more people to enroll in dwindling participation in public service jobs including teaching? There are jobs that pay a heck of a lot more. Are you saying we don’t need more qualified teachers when twice as many people are leaving the profession than entering it?PSLF is the law proposed by Bush and passed by Congress. It was the promise.
@erniepeters1695
@erniepeters1695 Ай бұрын
@@kimmc626 PSLF is a way different animal than President Biden’s plan of wide open transferring of debt from the “general population” of student loan debtors to American working taxpayers like me. Public Service employees have essentially paid their debts thru years of public service, and as you state that was the “deal” going in.. work as a cop or firefighter o teacher etc for X years while keeping minimum payments current and the taxpayer picks up the balance. You don’t follow thru, you pay for all of it. Essentially it becomes part of the compensation package for these public service employees and we the taxpayers already pay 100% of that compensation package. All good, and as it should be. What I’m against is President Biden’s unending quest to buy votes by trying to transfer all student debt to the backs of working taxpayers like me. Do not call it “forgiveness” or “cancellation”..no magic wand makes this debt disappear. With PSLF, students made agreement to make payments and work in public service to pay debt and the quid pro quo was the public service work we the taxpayers get from these students. Of course we should honor that. It’s fair and equitable. Regular federal guarantee student loan borrowers made no such agreement….and transferring their debt to the taxpayer has no benefit to said taxpayers.

@@downshift00 Or the cost of higher education increasing beyond reachable limits without student loans. Universities are responsible for this problem too. In the sixties, seventies, and early eighties a kid could pay for their education with a part time job. Not so today. The universities jumped on the student loan bandwagon by increasing the cost of higher education and actually encouraged loans because they knew the only way the majority of students could afford the higher fees and higher education was by taking out loans. I say this as someone who took out loans and paid them off myself, but it took me 20 years and I probably paid triple what the original loan was because of deferments and interest, etc. It’s an insane and broken system and I am glad this relief is available.
