This song represents in a way what Christ came to do...redeem our world. It takes a song with a mixed history of paganism, raucous indulgence and earnest desire for the well-being of others (be healthy ~ wassail) then it draws our attention to the joy and love for others that can only come from a right relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is better in full chorus imo...the wassail was based on a good harvest from trees in fruit orchards mostly apples in a certain section of England. The song as we hear it is based on children going door to door in England singing carols in exchange for a sip from the wassail bowl, (slightly alcoholic), a penny or piece of meat pie.
