and Martin Cook tickling and banging the piano one of the great southern gospel pianist who deserved more recognition. Gaither should have devoted a special to them before he passed. He was a high school shop teacher who took four high schoolers in 1964 and created a legendary group

While sure Mike was somewhat just out of high school when he joined, he wasn't one of the original high schoolers =) He joined in '72, the Inspirations started in '64 - I believe Mike would've been 10 at the time.

The only concert I've ever been to in 48 years was the inspirations when I was about 8 yrs old . They cane and sang at church here in Cleveland,Tn . We got a bumper sticker that said WE LOVE THE INSPIRATIONS and Big Mike Holcomb autographed it. They have been my favorite gospel group ever since ! God Bless you Men !

This may be the best lineup these guys ever had. Archie and Mike were legends, and Melton and Matt are extremely talented

@@phillippasteur3904 Archie Watkins was the tenor, from the first day, and this is him in this video. Eddie Deits sang baritone, after Jack Laws quit, for a while, in their early days. Melton Campbell is singing the baritone here.

It's still around. In fact Southern Gospel is more popular today.

Unfortunately, a lot of groups go for more of a "Contemporary" sound, nowadays. I'm like you...I love the old-fashioned way of singing and praising God!

If I was to put together a Gospel Super-Group of Singers, it'd be easy. Michael T. Holcomb at Bass, Squire Parsons at Baritone, Arthur Rice at Lead, and Brian Free at Tenor. For the Background Musicians, since Anthony Burger has already passed away, I'd go with Garry "Taco" Jones at Piano, Tim Surratt at Bass Guitar, Dennis Murphy at Drums...and I'd definitely have to give some thought, as to who I'd choose to play Steel Guitar, Banjo, Regular Guitar, Dobro, Tambourine, and Harmonica. If he was still alive, I'd choose Ol' Beaver, Gary Dillard, but he passed away about 2-3 years ago (Rest his soul).

I'm sorry I can't find info on the extras in this song . Through the years the following played instruments for The Inspirations...:...Martin Cook ( Piano ) , Roger Fortner ( Lead Guitar ) , Dale Jones ( Steel Guitar ) , Myron Cook ( Upright Bass ) , Luke Vaught ( Steel Guitar ) , C. D. Burns ( Rhythm Guitar ) ...The extras here must have been musicians available in lieu of performers not having their own musicians . If I find out otherwise , I will post it . This is an awesome Team . I hate to see them gone now , but they will assuredly be singing in Glory , the songs holy angels can not sing . The Glory Of The Lord Shall Prevail.
