That's excellent, well done on what you've produced so far. Don't forget that until the 18th century the catherdral had a tall spire & the west end had a small tower.

Simply superb. Fleshing out a picture of the castle and cathedral together with the old town enclosed by the wall and river must have been monumental. I can see the various parliamentary army assaults through Widemarsh and Bishops gates in my minds eye so much clearer now. Congrats on such fabulous work

Thanks very much for the kind comment, i have enjoyed making it, its been 2 years now. All the houses you see are modelled from around the country and bought into Hereford. I wish i could go back and see what it was really like.

Not many places have a game made about them do they. I thought Hereford was a good candidate because of its history and surviving architecture. Hopefully the game will put it on the map for people to visit.

I've always wanted to be miniaturised and to walk through the streets of our model map in the Black and White House Museum, where I work. You have made my dream come true. This is truly incredible! I will liaise with other museum staff if you'd like if you'd like to do any detailed work on the interior - as in the wall paintings etc.

Me too, A lot of the old wall remains but its not at full height. I didnt know if the game engine would be able to handle it ,but its performing really well.

very good. Music level is a bit high tho. Would most of the properties have been thatched? I'm not sure that the Norman Castle would have still been standing then either. Very good presentation and the thought of being able to play GTA 1642 in Hereford is amazing.

Interesting. I am glad it is a work in progress as the layout appears too spacious and the Cathedral close, what is now Church Street and the cloisters and spire are missing from the cathedral itself. I would be curious to see how it might progress. As someone who lived in the city for a few decades i recognised nothing of the layout, which would be recognisable as the street layout of the City Centre and the churches are still recognisable today.

it took a year to get it to this stage. I have lots of work to complete, so another year to get the rest of the buildings in place.

As someone who always wanted to 3D model Hereford Castle, this is incredible work! I didn't even get close to working out the dimensions. I'm assuming the main character is going to be stuck in the middle of the Civil War?

Are you a Herefordian? If you wanted to model anything i am looking for others to help. I used Taylors map of Hereford from 1757 and other maps , the model of Hereford in the black and white house are very good. Yes the scots will be besieging the city.

We are getting ready for it as we speak. Yes you can run around all the castle and the city walls and in and out of the buildings. You can run to the hills in the distance if you like. We are just testing the horse riding today.

@@Hereford1642 That's great to be working with your dad. Must be a lot of work. I just played the game and it does look great. I actually found it quite easy to orientate myself around the city. The signs helped but I know the city well enough just from the churches and the cathedral. Are you using the blueprint system in Unreal or are you programming it in c++?

@glyn hodges That sounds great. I think the multiplayer would be good fun. It is interesting to hear which parts you can handle easier with the blueprints and which parts you chose to code manually. Great work. I have a copy of a Speed map of 1610 and find it hard to reconcile the buildings with the ones on the map. On the map there are houses built between the bridge and the cathedral . There are also houses built right up to the cathedral facing the town. Your thoughts ?

Hi , The project is not entirely completed yet . There are house to be built in between the old bridge and the city. Looking at Isaac taylors map of 1757 gives you a better understanding of where the houses are. John Speeds map of 1610 is quite crude. If you get to go into the black and white house they have a great model of the city at this time, its based on two maps its self.

Surely the Cathedral had a spire in 1642? Seem to remember it came down in 1700s.
