That game looks so good for 1998. It's incredible the jump we had from these 2.5D games like Heretic 1 and Doom to fully 3d games. It also incorporates things like climbing a ledge with your hands like Tomb Raider, which is weird because many modern games like Skyrim for example do not allow this, leading to weird situations where your guy can only jump instead of simply climbing a small rock.

A lot of modern games which have climbing only allow the player to grab on to restricted hot spot areas

Almost nobody? Huh? I've been playing it since 1999 and I know tons of people who played it. And the amount of mods for it is quite abundant, with contributions by me and tons of other talented people.

Some new ones... You missed some in this video. But you blew me out of the water with those back flips off the walls... Mirror's Edge parkour in 98... :D

These early third person action adventures where just great. Besides Heretic 2, i also loved Kings Quest 8! It did the same what Heretic 2 did. Abandon it's predecessors and add something new and unique to the series.

i just beat this game after hearing about it on gmanlives i think, it was worth it, the graphics remind me of thief games and system shock 2, late 90s gaming

I'm glad to see someone else who loves both something as modern as Vocaloid and something as ancient as this game. I thought I was a one-of-a-kind weirdo, but it's good to see others on the same wavelength.

@@-Joyfull Nope I enjoy modern and old games too, although I am very picky with newer games and play older ones much moreso. :P

So does the ghost shrine actually exist or that just a clever joke in the manual?
@NnYmEssiS3 жыл бұрын
I saw it only in online levels. In single player not.
@Kevin52793 жыл бұрын
It's only in multiplayer and is pretty much the equivalent of the Shadowsphere from the first game. Civvie probably didn't play the multiplayer of Heretic II much so he thought it was a clever trick in the manual 😁

Hah! Now that hidden map at 8:00 seems like a reference to Quake. Try comparing to this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6GkmaewiNpjhpY
@TSprachrohr7 жыл бұрын
that map is actually playable as standalone. if you rummage enough through the multiplayer menu, you'll be able to launch it. if i remember correctly, this one and a few others are meant to be played in deathmatch
@TSprachrohr7 жыл бұрын
and yeah, there are more ”hidden maps” like this
@Kevin52793 жыл бұрын
@@TSprachrohr I didn't find it in the list of maps in the deathmatch section. Probably it can be loaded using the "map mapname" command
