How you edited the crowd cheering "You're doing great" and then clipped to you staring at the screen and deadpanning "I wish." (at 8:28) was so funny to me. Thanks for bringing us along for your journey. 50 miles is an amazing accomplishment!

It’s so mad how we both ended up with the same leg issue which ruined the downhill! Never experienced it before until that run. Well earned and a fantastic detailing of every aspect of the course. A video future NDW runners can use with security. Well done Chris, you did it

I've been thinking of doing a 50k at some point - probably in '23. I thought I'd rewatch this as I knew you'd had a few aches and pains!! So, now I realise you ran 50 miles not 50k....now I'm even more impressed Chris, that's a long, long way!
@HereWeAreRunning

Thanks. Yes 50 miles is a very long way. How some runners can do 100 miles, is a little mind blowing. My next Ultra will definitely be 50K, I think it's much more manageable.

Wow Chris brilliant run and event ......your filming captures the day, thank you for the whole series . The lady runner who was in your film just ahead of you in later stages was running in and around myself between the start and Reigate and I finished 12:38 so lost a bit more it seems in the last 20 miles. My problem was general fatigue but I had no specific aches or pains ... just completely knackered and I fell over twice!! 😂 We did it Chris and thanks to you and Dan for all the motivation in your filming 🤙🏃🏻💪🏁
@HereWeAreRunning
@HereWeAreRunning 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael and very well done to you too 👍🙌 Fatigue and low energy caught me out a bit on the longer training runs so I know that feeling well. In fact I really focused on taking on board a lot more fuel during the race and it worked., just the aching of my legs that I wasn't expecting but as you say, we both did it and that's what matters.

Massive congrats those hills looked harsh, shame the battery didn’t last those last few metres.

Thanks 👍😀 Individually and with fresh legs, the hills are ok but as part of a 50 mile ultra race, each one wears you down just a little more. Challenging course but really rewarding.

Well done Chris you certainly had to grit that one out. After all of the training you did I’m confused why you legs felt so bad after only a few miles. Rest up and it will be interesting to see the next challenge.

Thanks Tim. It's actually quite scary when you think how long it would take just to drive from Farnham to Knockholt, let alone run it. But breaking the challenge up into just getting to the next aid station certainly helped.

Great video of an awesome course. Gave me some great reminders of when I ran it in 2016/17/18. Interesting to see some of aid stations had moved locations. Hope to run it again in 2022 if I can sort my health issues out.

Thank you 👍😀 I'm guessing it was the Dorking and Reigate aid stations that had moved. I think this was so that they were in less crowded places. Best wishes for sorting your health issues out and hope you can make the 2022 race.

Thanks Julie. When I look back now I keep thinking of two things. Why did my legs ache so much and so early on and how on earth did I manage to continue. I'm definitely proud that I overcame the little voices it my head that were trying to convince me, I'd never finish.

What a brilliant video, and a fantastic effort. Im looking to do my first Ultra in July this year 45M so just shy of yours, im trying to document it on my channel so any tips and hints would be appreciated RE filming (Extra batteries I imagine would be piece of advice 1!) What an inspiration, Liked and subscribed, looking forwards to seeing whats next!
@HereWeAreRunning
@HereWeAreRunning 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you and hope your training for your Ultra is going well. Definitely have two batteries. If you can, gain some experience of the course so that you know in advance the best bits to be filming. Likely you won't want to be holding the camera for the full 45 miles so have a plan on where you'd put it when not holding it. I attached mine to where the poles would normally attach on my pack.

Great effort! Its was a very tough course in places, and I really struggled in the middle section from Boxhill to Colly Hill. Managed to face plant in the woods with about 5km left as well 🤣
@HereWeAreRunning
@HereWeAreRunning 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ray. That middle section is tough at the best of times. I think it helped me, knowing it so well. It certainly helped getting to Reigate and knowing what we faced ahead of us wasn't going to be as tough. Hope you were OK after the face plant, it was really muddy in those woods.

Result!!!! Being an over pronator, what are your favourite trail shoes? I can’t find anything that will go more than 6 miles without causing discomfort without doing an epic 50 like you

Thanks Peter. In terms of trail shoes, the Asics Gel Trabuco 9 are designed as a stability shoe. I got on well with these up to distances of around 20 miles. I bought the Inov-8 Trailfly Ultra's for the final long runs of my training and the race. They are a max cushioned trail shoe and really helped with comfort when the runs got longer. Like most trail shoes, they aren't specifically a support shoe but they were fine for keeping me stable over the 50 mile race on uneven trails.

Fantastic achievement. A great run, you must have been absolutely wrecked by the end, I wonder how some 3 days later your legs are feeling now and whether you're tempted to climb back onto that treadmill again anytime soon.
@HereWeAreRunning
@HereWeAreRunning 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tony. My legs were completely wrecked by the end and getting into the car for the lift home was a challenge. They are still truly battered but with every day that passes, they are slowly recovering. The treadmill will remain unused for a while I reckon 😀
