I've bought 4 Heritage Roughriders 3 were given as gifts. I added blue Locktite to all of them and haven't had any problems with the screws backing out. I own many Rugers but, the Heritage is hard to beat at it's price point. The accuracy is amazing for a low priced gun! Having the safety has been a plus teaching my daughters to shoot. My Dad loves his and I bought the magnum cylinder for his with about $130 into the gun total.

I have three Rough Riders. My 11yo daughter loves them. I've had one of them for about 15 years. I'm going to buy more. I prefer the finish and the click stops when rotating the cylinder on the Rough Rider which makes unloading or ejecting brass easier. The 4 clicks...❤❤❤ I also like the safety on the Rough Rider for teaching or training. I'm certain that the Wrangler is a good firearm. I just prefer the Rough Rider and i can't find justification for the price discrepancy. FYI I'm pretty sure Zamak is also used in medical implants and it makes zero difference in rimfire. Heritage makes steel Rough Riders for locales with melting point laws. Regardless of anything else, thanks for bringing more attention to great training and plinking revolvers that can reasonably serve as self defense with 22 WMR that are generally AFFORDABLE 😁 Happy Independence Day and have a blast 😎👍

I am a lifelong Ruger fan. revolvers, bolt rifles, ARs. Not so much on their pistols, excepting the Mark series 22 pistols. I own 20 plus Ruger firearms. However, I bought a rough rider for a hundred bucks 6.5-inch barrel. 22/22 mag. I have been harvesting game. Squirrels, ground hogs, coons and an armadillo. I love this revolver. Very accurate. I went back and bought two more. A bird's head and a shorter barreled like the one I have. The bird's head is fun. can't hit anything farther than 10 paces. But i feel like I'm Doc Holiday when I wear it at the range. LOL. The short barrel is OK. much harder to shoot. The original revolver is up to a 20-kill count. I love shooting it. And it is very accurate. it is my official Squirrel hunt side arm. Yes, I hated the safety at first. Yes, it's ugly. But it works. and it's in the right place. I have acclimated it. I'm good. 10 stars. spend a hundred. You won't be sorry.

I have two Rough riders (one plow & birds head) & one Wrangler. The screws always come loose on the Heritage! Had to lock tight them. Trigger spring goes also after many rounds. Light strikes. But it does cost more.

Only rimfire pistol I have. Many others. For many dollars less my Taraus 856 shoots just as well as my 640 Smith. I can say, you CANNOT beat the service I received from Ruger on a GP100. It is a case of you get what you pay for...we couldn't justify to ourselves the price of a single six for casual plinking, a .22 single action revolver shouldn't be an arm and a leg...yeah, the single six will run forever, but maybe we got lucky as our Heritage has been reliable, the screws not withstanding...back then we chose it over the Wrangler with the .22wmr cylinder the deciding factor...amazing that Ruger took so long to realize the Wrangler would sell better with two cylinders available...

Great review of two fun revolvers. Glad we have something like the traditional single-action that is affordable! Kudos to the shooter who held the revolvers w/two hands and cocked the hammer with the Left thumb! This allows for better accuracy since the "firing " hand stays put when trigger is pulled. Keep these good reviews coming, this is what informal "plinking" is all about. Safe, fun relaxation! Blsgs on you and yours, gg

Wow great review! I had the original Ruger Wrangler and loved it. The only pitfall the wragler had was in a indoor range with the lighting it was very difficult to get a true sight picture and see the target down range. Shooting the wrangler outdoors was way better for me. I did change out the grips on the wrangler with rose wood grips and the wider grips improved accuracy of the revolver. I did sell the wrangler and bought a Diamondback Sidekick 22LR/22WMR. Love this gun but the same issue shooting it in a indoor range. I just picked up my new Super Wrangler and added new rose wood grips. What a difference in the sights. I do need to take the super wrangler out to the range soon. Compaired to the Diamondback the adjustable sights on the super wrangler wins over the rear notch sights on the diamondback. Great review and really love your channel. Blessings to Y'All !!!

Here in W Houston (TX) the Heritages are priced around $119.00 to $159.00, depending on the barrel length (and $50.00 extra for a mail-in Mag cylinder). The Wrangler, or the other hand, goes for $199.00 (just the gun) to $300 (with a leather holster). So, I owned a Heritage Rough Rider in .22 Mag and .22 LR. Was a 3.5 inch birdshead model. Wasn't the biggest fan. It had the tendency to overshoot the half cock for loading so you would have to cock the revolver, lower it, and try to get it back to half cock. The loading gate felt loose and like it would just fly off. The fit and finish was meh but the biggest offender was the fact that a couple screws backed out. I tried tightening it down and the threads were stripped out of the Zemack frame. The Wrangler was built stout but I didn't like the grip since I found my thumb constantly slipping off the hammer mid-cocking action. Found that wasn't an issue with the bidshead and wrote Ruger for a year telling them they needed to make a bidshead grip. The only other issue I had with the Ruger was the loading gate. I almost tore my thumbnail off when trying to load when my thumb slipped and caught the underside of my nail on the gates edge. That gate almost needed a flathead screwdriver to open. Even so, I would rather shoot that Ruger any day of the week over a Heritage. I just have so much more confidence in the Ruger Build and Quality Control Standards

They don't have the same quality as a Colt or a Ruger. The materials are a little cheaper. The workmanship is not the same as Ruger or Colt but they are sturdy little guns. I also have a EIG Model E15 made in Germany I have no idea how long ago I inherited from my dad. The frame is marked 22LR. The cylinder is marked 22 Magn Germany. The grips have a buffalo on each side on them. It only has three clicks.

Worked in a firearms shop for a couple years, these new Heritage revolvers...the only good thing I can say about them is Heritage was more than happy to repair them when there were issues. They may have been made well at some point in the past I'm sure. Never had a problem with the Wranglers that I can remember, and Ruger's customer service was johnny on the spot for other items if there were issues.

I wish Ruger limited the Cerakoting to the frame but nitrided the barrel and ejector housing to match the cylinder. Right now I'm only considering adding the black Super Wrangler to my collection, however I'm prioritizing finding a used slightly finish worn Single Six first.

I really like this style of safety on rimfire guns because they let you dry fire the gun without messing up the firing pin or chamber mouth. Walter P22 is an excellent training pistol for this reason, you can put the safety on and dry fire to your heart's content.

love my Rough Rider its broken a few time tigger spring but easy to fix and you can get all kinds of hammers and triggers for them. we have tested 22lr in the 22 Magnum and it will fire but your speed is cut in half be cus the case is fire forming to the 22 Magnum size i think its like .16 biger

Been seriously looking at the Super Wrangler since it came out. The Rough Riders are fun guns, but I don't like the idiot switch on the back. The first gun I bought was a Ruger Blackhawk, and I kinda want the matching .22.

The Heritage Rough Rider is an exceptional value. You can buy them as a combo gun or purchase a .22 magnum cylinder separately. You can also buy a birdhead grip and swap out grip frames easily. Heritage has a large inventory of accessories available online. The actions a slick, the guns are very accurate and reliable. Ruger makes fine firearms, but I prefer the Rough Riders. They are great little guns!

The basic battle between cost, finish and "authenticity". One or two will have to be sacrificed or at least given lessor priority. The Heritage uses a simpler and cheaper to make hammer block safety, the Wrangler a more expensive. transfer bar system. The Heritage requires the shooter to use it or to keep an empty chamber under the hammer; so it's always the shooters responsibility. The more expensive transfer bar on the Ruger is always there working, so the level of safety is higher and not dependent on the shooter. The finish plays an important part in cost. Both the Heritage and Wrangler use non-authentic blued steel for the frame to keep the cost affordable. Cast zinc is easier than cast aluminum and holds up well. But the zinc frame looks rounded on the Heritage, giving it a rather less polished fit. Since it's not blued, but coated, it looks, well, cheap. The aluminum on the Wrangler has a wonderful crisp fit and surface to it. This is thanks to Ruger's other business, as a precision metal casting supplier for other companies (Pine Tree Castings), including those not in the firearms business. But aluminum by itself looks totally unauthentic and doesn't blue well, hence the Cerakote. It's a really tough surface, far more durable than many other finishes, but it will never be glossy like blued steel. The grip frame is zinc, also Cerakoted. Ruger decided to go with Cerakote for the barrel, too, instead of blued. From a design point of view, this was a good idea, as it keeps the look of the gun consistent from grip to muzzle. Why then not Cerakote the trigger, hammer and cylinder? Besides the wear factor, especially on the cylinder, it was also looks: they are visual accents according to purpose. Trigger and hammer fire the rounds (one color), cylinder holds the rounds (another color) and grip/frame/barrel complete the system (the final color). The Heritage looks a little disjointed style wise when compared to the Wrangler. Authenticity or it's lack of it, is a dilemma that can't be resolved (or for some, forgiven) when price has to come into play. It costs more for authenticity, which may keep it out of the purchaser it was intended for, thus negating the whole reason for the gun. Heritage took the more authentic route, to some with mixed results. Ruger uses the "inspired by" mindset and went non authentic with the Cerakote, but some have called it heresy. In both the Heritage and Wrangler, it's the "feel" that's the thing and both do a good, very good job of it. Funny how there wasn't any huge uproar way back, when Ruger put adjustable sights on a Colt SAA patterned revolver way back when...

My Rough Rider's front sight is off alignment, but still shots great you just have to give it a little Kentucky windage. When I held the Wrangler it felt plastic, I thought the barrel was polymer with a liner at first. Just didn't like the feel. The super six I have shot was butter smooth and deadly accurate.

I had to take a half round file to the back of the holes in the cylinder of the Rough Rider because the ammo cases were not going in easily and we're getting stuck after I was firing them. Once I did that had no problems.

I checked out the Wrangler. I prefer mey Heritages. Although I have seen a downgrade in quality since Taurus bought out Heritage. Number 1 turnoff for the Ruger? Open the loading gate and the cylinder spins. Personally I don't care for that from a more primitive gun. But then again I also muzzle load hunt with a Thompson Center .50 Hawken in Caprock and hate in lines.
