Her family is English-speaking, English was her main language (and probably still is) so it's no surprise that she has such a good grasp of English. At the start of her career she had difficulty grappling with Chinese, now she's fully bilingual.

This drama was also popular in Indonesia while 8i (8 International) was aired as the exclusive channel on MNCVision (formerly known as Indovision, OkeVision and TopTV) channel 151, the channel was started airing quarter of 2011. From the airing until held the meet and greet session with MediaCorp artistes in three biggest and most rich cities in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan is the last city that they visit before the channel was deceased one year later and November 30 2016 is the last day of the channel on MNCVision, but they will explore more to bring back the channel on other platform and they will keep us informed when they are back.

The Peranakan culture favoured boys heavily. Many girls suffered greatly to impress their future mother in laws. Some went partially blind sewing beads to gain acceptance into the family.

Peranakans had always spoken better and fluent English compared to the local typical Chinese people till the MANDARIN language dominated us all and was made a COMPULSORY language since then.I find irritating as a Nonya myself. Why try to diminish our origin? We should remain as who are and were ..... English speaking with Malay as second language and keep our Mother Tongue.Be what we are and be proud !!!! And cut the MANDARIN bullshits !!!!

Are you a lunatic to assume all Singaporeans are Peranakans ? You are free to choose Malay as a second language. No one is forcing mandarin on you. Don’t be so dramatic. And if you actually really know your roots better, you would curse to be born a girl , as boys were highly favoured over girls in the Peranakan culture. So clearly , you are ignorant.
