Shocked at the destruction of my favourite place in the world!
In Spring 2007 access roads and installation sites for the newly established Emo International Garden Festival were built in the field that sweeps from the formal gardens of Emo Court to the lake. Later that year the operating company behind the festival went into liquidation and the site was left to decay.
Over the last 2 years the artist I filmed the ongoing deterioration of this once beautiful site. I have had a long connection with Emo Court since my childhood and I love it. As part of the Laois County Council Artists Symposium in Emo in 2005, I created a film called My favourite place in the world.
This current work was created in an attempt to express my sadness at the desecration of a very special heritage site in county Laois.
This work was completed especially for the 10th anniversary of the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise.
Filmed by Lisa Fingleton at Emo Court, Co. Laois between March 2007 and April 2009.
