Ricardo Iorio
Ricardo Horacio Iorio (Ciudadela, Tres de Febrero, Buenos Aires; June 25, 1962-Coronel Suárez, Buenos Aires; October 24, 2023) was an Argentine musician and producer, known for being the founder of the bands V8, Hermética and Almafuerte. He is considered one of the main referents and promoters of Argentine heavy metal.
He began his musical career as bassist of V8, a band he founded with Ricardo "Chofa" Moreno. After releasing three albums and some changes of members, they split in 1987. In 1988 he formed Hermética, where in addition to being the bassist, he became the main musical composer and exclusive composer of the lyrics, besides singing occasionally. After the band's peak in 1994, it split up. In early 1995 he formed Almafuerte, where he established himself as singer and bassist. He would abandon the bass in 2002 and in 2016 he announced the dissolution of Almafuerte.
His career consisted of seventeen studio albums, several live albums and numerous participations with artists such as Pappo, León Gieco, Claudio Marciello or Flavio Cianciarulo, among others.
Biography
Ricardo Iorio was born in the Ramón Carrillo Hospital in Ciudadela and grew up in the neighborhood of Caseros, in the heart of a humble family. During his adolescence he helped his father in the market delivering potatoes, for which he earned the nickname "Papero". He married Ana Mourín in 1987 with whom he had two daughters and from whom he separated in 1999. Mourín committed suicide in 2001. From 2000 until his death he lived with Fernanda García (Fernandita), whom he married in September 2012.
