Hi Herman. I’m Anne Grant’s son, Jay. This piece is absolutely beautiful. I so appreciate the dedication to my mom. I’m glad you and my mom were able to connect so wonderfully through music in the last years of her life. I will miss sharing in the joy she had in making music, but I know it lives on in those of us who are still here. I love this piece so much and will treasure it always. Hi Jay, my deepest condolences to you. I feel so sad because Anne and I often spoke about seeing each other again and playing the piano, like that time at your parents’ house. That was such a special day. Never thought that would be the last time, it’s so hard to believe. Yes, I’m so glad that we had that musical connection, even continued from a distance. She always loved playing the new piano pieces I sent her. Anne was so sweet and gentle and kind, I’m saddened but am grateful to have known her and having the music with me in her memory. Beautiful, as always! One of my favorite things about your flute compositions is that you make use of the full range of the instrument without it feeling forced or gimmicky. There's a purpose to everything that fits the piece. It's never technically difficult just for the sake of it but because it follows the natural flow of the piece. I'm absolutely in love with your work!

It's amazing how you can evoke rich emotions in your music with mostly diatonic harmony. Personally, I'm a fan of pieces that use a lot of non-diatonic harmony because of the exoticness it can bring. Hearing this is so cool knowing that this is also possible to achieve with such elegance.

Earlier this year I was asked to play something with "Spring" in the title. I listened to it and then bought this several other flute and flute and piano pieces on your website. This piece nearly had me in tears! The piano speaks this mournful tone while the flute accompanies with a somber response. I feel this piece is a representation of how many have struggled throughout life and are trying to reach a point of hope. Another pleasure. One thing I notice about the flute player, is his 'open' notes, such as C in this piece, sound full and weighty like what you expect from more closed tones where the tube length is longer. Beautiful consistent tone. Secondly, I am very appreciative of the musicality of the performance. You two play music not notes.

Thank you! I wrote the piano part a while ago as a stand-alone piece, added the flute melody recently. To record I use Protools, for making the sheet music I use Sibelius software.
