I simply love Hermes/Mercury, always have, always will ♉️💖 the fact he’s a God who travels between the Olympic, Chthonic and Mortal is simply beautiful, and makes no wonder why he’s revered in Esoteric/Philosophical fields and identified in Jung’s writings. Edit: it’s easy to chuckle at phallic statutory and imagery, the breadth of time and prevalence of such depictions across cultures/religions has always fascinated me as to what they’re significance meant to those commissioning the statues and paintings. Obviously it’s funny, but I imagine there’s much more to it all regarding how people’s viewed/valued genitalia. It sure is an odd detail to add to a God above things like abs or other such details.

It’d be so cool if you did a video about Eros. Just about his different depictions as either a primordial god or the son of Aphrodite

Thank you Aaron, always inspiring. Recommended readings for understanding Hermes a little better? I’ve read the Homeric hymn and the Iliad/Odyssey.

Im glad you enjoyed it! As far as Hermes, it's a good question JS Clay "the Politics of Olympus" on the Hymns is a good place to start on the Hymn but for Hermes specifically I would say the OCD entry with its biblio is a great place to start, let me know if you want me to send it to you. There isn't a ton of accessible stuff in English it seems to me

There is a popular internet meme showing that both Ancient Romans and modern humans (us) laugh whenever we see phallic graffitis - strongly implying that humans normally don't really change much. Is this meme accurate? Did these ancient Greeks laugh every time they saw these Herm with dongs when travelling along roads?
