The Hermit Thrush arrives at the nature sanctuary in the spring, hunts on the ground for insects, and finally sings its haunting song in the upland forest. This video was taken From Spring Farm CARES Nature Sanctuary's Living Portrait series.

I heard these birds singing on my last trip to Maine last May...about 3:00 AM just before dawn. I will never forget how the song rang through the forest..poignant and haunting.

The only bird that sings harmony due to the way they’re syrinx is formed. Beautiful music.

This conjures so many memories of growing up in upstate NY; not just the thrush song but the entire avian chorus.

I love the song of this bird. I've heard it for years riding across the state of Michigan and never knew what it was. It echos thru the woods. Brought tears to my eyes to hear it on your video. Thank you.

Ésta pequeña y discreta de plumaje; tiene la voz más bella y melodiosa entre todas las aves. Agradezco mucho a quienes hicieron posible este vídeo 🙏

You've done a beautiful job documenting this almost impossible to see little brown bird that has such a beautiful song it could break your heart. They arrived here in SW new Brunswick last night, April 18, always a thrill.

Incredible! Wonderful to see so much of him. I have one living nearby that I identified by song, but I've not seen him. He hangs out higher in the trees than I can see from the ground. Thank you!

Hi - I don't know if my previous post made it through or not. In case it didn't, I just linked a video, hoping you can verify if it is a Wood Thrush or a Hermit Thrush. I had thought by the range maps that it would be a Wood Thrush, but the song sounded to me like the Hermit ... and the spotting on the front was not as striking as I would expect a Wood Thrush ... and it was over 5,000 feet elevation in a spruce forest - mentioned as a Hermit Thrush habitat ... Thanks!

From the deep secluded recesses, From the fragrant cedars and ghostly pines so still, came the carol of the bird And the charm of the carol rapt me, As I held as if by their hands my comrades in the night And the voice of my spirit tallied with the song of the bird. In the beginning of the video there is a bird in the background with a very distinct, siren-like song. Could anyone identify that for me?
