What is y2k?
@brokencreativity726611 ай бұрын
@@iamannocent2913A collection of things, but mostly it was the issue that when first designed, lots of computer, tech, and Internet things automatically assumed the 19-- for all year dates, so when the new millennium came along with 20--, they would all think it was 1900 again, breaking things. This led to a lot of public panic because with a public that's still new to the internet and how it works, it's very easy to panic them
@snakeees11 ай бұрын
Really I wouldn't compare this to the Y2K issue because well it was mostly just imaginary. Enough devices use things like Epoch or NTP which all stored dates as a number in terms of seconds since Jan 1st 1970 or Jan 1st 1900. it would mostly just be a UI thing where when converted to a formated string and the first two digits off the year were removed, people may have thought it was suddenly Jan 1st 1900, but if you thought that you probably had bigger issues. Sure there would also have been some badly written code that didn't use properly thought-out and well documented systems like epoch and instead just decided to store the last two digits of the year, but the same people were likely cutting a lot more corners while writing code. So yea it was mostly a UI issue. Yea I know there was a firm claiming it would cost anywhere between 300 and 600 billion dollars but I don't really see anyone that has tried doing the research and ended up at the same cost, so it is likely that number was fueled by the scare. But fear not there is an issue similar to what Mumbo might face and one we might too. Its called the Y2K38 problem and it is caused by Databases(see the relation!) using a 32bit system. So to explain it as best as I can, the numbers of seconds since Jan 1st 1970 are stored as a series of bits and 32bit systems used 32bit signed int(signed just means it can store both positive and negative). If you add the largest number a 32bit int can store to Jan 1st 1970 you get a random day in the year 2038 at 2pm. After that databases break. Obviously there is an easy fix. Use 64bit systems and most of us do, but due to the number of devices that still use 32bit to this day (I mean take a second to think about how even until just a few years ago Internet Explorer was still highly used.) It will be hard to convince everyone to buy new devices. FYI using 64bit means we now get 292 billion year (lucky us I guess).

14:50 MUMBO NO! That Deal is for a Fark oak permit! You're giving him a Dark oak permit! Per the Letter of the contract, he won't have to give you Anything, cause you never gave him a Fark oak permit! (I hope it's an innocent typo, and not a Malicious Lawyering, and that the Spirit of the Contract will be used instead of the Letter.)
@GothBoyUK11 ай бұрын
Well, given that Mumbo was aware of it being an error at the time of signing, he forfeited any legal recourse. He can't claim he genuinely thought it was Fark Oak now - it's all on video. 😂
