A thought for building with sculk and stone, you can use stone, lichen, sculk, and "sculk vines" to make several block variations that transition between each other. Stone+ sculk vine, or lichen + sculk makes an "almost transformed" block, useful for when stone and sculk would meet each other.

I do not have actual knowledge to contribute here, but I do have a feeling that items didn't used to scatter as far as they do now when you die. These days you're likely to lose things just because you didn't look far enough around, even when you still have time before they would despawn. It would be interesting to test how far items can scatter, and I think the test should include a variety of different heights (i.e. how far up that cliff did you splat or get shot). I'm also wondering whether "kinetic energy" spreads items farther than a more static death does.

I've noticed that one of the more popular mods is grave marker type mods that put your items into a container of some kind on death. It's a pretty good option as I feel that just keeping everything on death might remove any consequence of death, but potentially losing everything to the void, lava, or just items disappearing to time can be very frustrating. Personally I'd like to see something added, whether it's a different form of totem, or possibly some kind of enchantment for tools that lets you keep them through one death, but also gets rid of the enchantment so it only works once, then you'd have to re-apply it to all your tools and armor. The new compass only helps so much in the recovery of items, and it's relatively late game, so idk how useful it actually is....
@eliad65432 жыл бұрын
I think this grave thing should be toggleable (so it only happens on easy and peaceful, or as a separate gamerule). Some players like the challenge and the tension of not wanting to die and they've been getting less and less of that as time went on.

I think that like keep inventory, they should have a togglable feature that drops your items at your feet when you die or in a safe place close to your death, thus adding in another "difficulty" slider into Minecraft without actually using the difficulty setting, Although we could also have it so that Easy has keep inventory automatically on, medium has smart items on and Hard has items splatter. Hello Games recently added some new difficulty features in a recent update to No Man's Sky. You can choose the level of difficulty for certain aspects of the game, such as economy, level of hostility from NPC's, items being kept or lost after a death, cost of building, etc. You can also lock it in meaning once you set everything and lock it, you can't change it back. It would be interesting to see if Mojang could implement something similar.

What I don't like at all is how random you can lose your most valuable items. I made a create mod server for me and me brother and at one time, he was playing around in the nether with his potato cannon and shooting pigmen. When he went into the portal, pigmen were camping in front of the portal and stunlocked him in the nether portal decoration he setup, around it some fire to make it look better. He died and all his items srpead across and the only thing that was destroyed was the potato cannon witth the best enchants by far we had at that point. From all the items, his favorite one was the only thing that was flying so unlucky, it ended up in this small fire. Really took down the mood and he took away the fire to make it safer instead of prettier. The graveyard datapack gives back a lot of fun in exploring and we don't end up on a timer, where we already had cases where items would despawn in front of our eyes, because our gear was filled up with garbage during the excavation getting to the body. Minecraft shouldn't be this punishing, it can already take a long time to get to where you died. Setting up new respawn points along the journey just to be sure to be close IF you die is not the way I want to play.
@NoobixCube2 жыл бұрын
I'm not usually in the "get good, scrub" camp, but if you don't like your items burning or falling into the void, the solution is simple: don't die near fire or void. I think Minecraft has enough soft edges these days that death should still induce panic and dread. The counter-incentive to using all netherite fully enchanted gear is the time investment in replacing it if it's lost. It's already harder to die when you have better gear, so if you manage to die with good gear, there _should_ be an element of punishment to it. Of course, one thing I've always wanted in Minecraft has been a reason to use different tiers of armour instead of things being a straight upgrade. There's no reason to wear leather after you get iron, no reason to wear iron after you get diamond, no reason not to upgrade the diamond to netherite. Recent versions have made it so leather shoes keep you from sinking into powdered snow, and gold anything keeps piglins from getting angry at you, but they're really niche cases. What if gold armour and tools could get enchanted to a much higher level? Imagine nonsense like "fortune VII" on a pick. What if leather armour provided a speed bonus over heavier gear? Or an extra row of inventory because you're not so encumbered? I can't think of a way to incentivise diamond over netherite right now, but I genuinely think Minecraft needs reasons NOT to always upgrade your gear. You should have to give something up in the process.
@NL-fy6to2 жыл бұрын
To your question-nah I dont think they should make dying less punishing. Right now minecraft is like a weird sliding scale where death is very punishing early game but late game there is almost no punishment to it due to how much easier it is to have backup stuff. The only item I could agree with that is the dragon egg due to the fact you only get one.

I think that minecraft shouldn't make death less punishing, as that (although subtle) is a big part of the game. The community makes all sorts of crazy contraptions to fix or avoid problems, including death. I you make it less punishing, there will be less of a need for said contraptions, and I don't think thats quite as fun. However, I can easily see someone arguing for the opposite.

Always fun to see mythbusting, thanks! I'm not the right one to ask about item splaying upon death, I usually play with Keep Inventory because I don't like dealing with the time sink of going and recovering stuff. I guess that means I'd prefer them to not explode everywhere and fall into oblivion.
@aschoenecke2 жыл бұрын
As for the question at the end, I think the gravestone mod mechanic would be great to add into the game. It's a great balance between Keep inventory True and still having consequences for death. That way you don't just default lose your items in 5 minutes, you can gear up and fight your way back to where you died, and you items don't splash out into lava or void either.
@AnimilesYT2 жыл бұрын
I think there should be a setting to toggle the item distribution to avoid things like fire, lava, falling into the void, or falling off cliffs. It could also possibly be a slider setting where like 0 will make it purely random like how it is now and 100 will always prevent your items from getting destroyed where possible. Falling in the void or falling in lava with the setting on 100 could maybe even place the items in the place where the player last touched the ground. While we're at it, having a setting to change the item despawn time could also be a nice feature to have. Due to lag reasons I don't know if this should apply to the item despawn time for everything though. Maybe there can be 3 categories. Items from player deaths, items dropped by players, and other items

I think items lost upon death is fine for me. In fact the "keep inventory" is optional though it is a cheat in-game. If losing items upon death is considered less punishing, there is almost no awareness or cautiousness in exploring dangerous biomes. They already considered netherite as blast and fire resistant which are hard to find and expensive to craft. Well, if a player loses his valuable items going in the Nether for instance, he/she shouldn't brought his/her valuable items in the first place. If returning home from the Nether, he/she should double his/her awareness to avoid losing Nether-only items. This is just my take regarding losing items upon death. Anyways, Cub must be stopped! Love your videos!

i feek like what would help in some of these would be a control test. see how the amount of items falling into the void compares to a much older version

Getting your things voided is the worst, I wish they added the feature where they would land on nearby blocks

I think diminishing the risks makes the game more boring and bland, if you don't want to lose items while playing you could just play with keepinventory on.

Vanilla Tweaks graves. You still have to find where you died, but all your items are safe. I feel like that’s the best compromise between Vanilla mechanics and gamerule keep inventory true. Disclaimers: graves uses keep inventory to put items in graves; if you die in unloaded chunks, current bug that loses all your items

I think the way items fly everywhere upon death is kind of bothersome, since you often have to go out of your way to reclaim some of them, but I also think it makes sense for items that do land on a dangerous spot (fire, void...) to be destroyed
