This is good, but be sure to have a spiritual Father!! Just as St. Anthony of Egypt, the first monk in Christendom did. Soul AND body are sanctified together in our ancient Orthodox Faith. I would not recommend the Philokalia to non-Orthodox who live outside the Grace-filled Mysteries (esp. Holy Eucharist). We all must beware of Gnostic ("evil body") influences in Evragios. The source of evil, as the Lord tells us is "the heart". By the way, not all monks are "elders"; some are just "elderly". We pray for the gift of "discernment of spirits" - from the Holy Spirit which we ask for humbly from Christ our God.
