Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung are really the underrated performances in this movie. They had to portray three very different characters and still manage to make the transitions feel organic. Really remarkable work from both of them.

I loved the use of colors and tone in these flashback sequences. Nameless' original account of betrayals and infighting is dyed in red with everyone speaking very rudely. The Emperor's romantacised idea of what transpired is filled with sombre tones and an abundant with light blue colors. And in this scene, where Nameless reveals the truth, everything is more naturally lit and not embelished with any kind of colors.

I guess that's also why the fight with Sky has no color scheme and is shot rather bleak-looking. Because it is the only thing in Nameless' original account that wasn't a lie (aside from the fact that Sky lost on purpose iirc), and stays the same in every variation of the story.

Lackus Shock: I believe using Chinese symbolism of colours, red represents love/passion, white-death... I'm not sure about blue and green. But overall the movie is visually stimulating and epic

For those of you who don't understand what's going on Flying Snow(Maggie Cheung) was angry with Broken Sword(Tony Leung) for not killing the emperor(Daoming Chen), when he had the opportunity do so with no guards able to stop him. That's why Nameless(Jet Li) agreed to help her. The one who was was assisting Broken Sword was Moon(Ziyi Zhang). Here are some spoilers If the cast of the movie is wearing red then that's Nameless' madeup story of how Broken Sword, Flying Snow & Sky(Donnie Yen) were all killed. If the cast is wearing blue then that's the emperor's version of the story & yes the emperor knew that Nameless trying to kill him. If the cast is wearing white then that's when Nameless tells the emperor the truth.

It's mostly CGI now and it's very unfortunate. But from what i have observed Chinese historical dramas still include realistic fight choreography. But anything Wuxia nowadays uses bad CGI. Brotherhood of Blades 1&2 has good swordplay and Reign of Assassins is also really good.
