Correct me if I am wrong. Another trick you can use PenPsy is with Multiple Ranged Combat Targets (the lightning bolts next to your range). You have PenPsy, 4 damage, and 2 Bolts, when you successfully hit two targets you can divide the PenPsy damage anyway you choice between the two attacked characters. This can be helpful knocking opposing characters who are front loaded with and knock them off their more useful clixs.

Note: the tie-up piece doesn't have to cost less than 50-points, but that is what some players aim for in a 300-point game. All sorts of variations are possible, of course.

The Tabletop Teacher - I think the reason people prefer < 50 pts is because you are potentially sacrificing the tie-up piece in exchange for a few turns of strategic advantage but don't want to give up a lot of points when the tie-up piece gets focused. I feel there are only a handful of tie-up pieces with the damage and survivability to warrant a high loss if they get ko'd. great video once again.

Revival Jam makes a very tempting tie-up. It's technically above 50, but only at 52. With a 50% Shape Change, Plasticity, AND Incapacitate, it can really stick on you. It can even come back after dying, and only gets scored once. The revival just takes a while.

A nice combo with this is Energy Explosion. When they are used in the same attack the splash damage dealt by Energy Explosion is also Penetrating.

... you just neutered my understanding of DXF014 Cable. Because he makes a ranged "attack" after Bodyslide, it can't penetrate. I'll have to seriously re-evaluate his effectiveness. I'll still probably love him, though. UXM058 Cameron Hodge laughs at this. He explicitly can't be targeted by it and still has Impervious. Exploit Weakness might become a problem, but he still gets free regeneration!

That Impervious and trait combo that Cameron Hodge has reminds me of one of my favorite Golden Age figures: Validus from SLoSH (with a possible PW on top of that... gotta love him). I only bought a single brick of UXM and missed out on Cameron Hodge - he was at the top of my wish list along with Mr. Sinister, but pulled Dark Angel, Pixie and Malice.

"For all friendly characters that can use Leadership, Action Total +1." I am not understanding this phrase. 1) Can it only be used when a person uses the character with Leadership? 2) Is the action total cumulative for every friendly character on your team?

So my question is with modern rules, can you choose not to use pen/psych blast? Really weird question but it came up in a game when I was using dark phoenix. Her trait heals her when she does 4 or more damage or kos a piece and on 300 points she has pen/psych and 5 damage. She would heal onto her prior stop click giving her reduced stats than her starting 300 points and in the situation I was in I would rather have not risked it. So can you choose to not use pen/psych or if you have the power it's a mandatory effect added on to any ranged attack made by that character? Also now with the latest rules update its all just so free. Like you can use so much more stuff with hypersonic now when prior you couldn't. Just for anyone newer watching this video. Look out for recent rule changes because there's been a lot in 2023.

Right Now i guess my Favorite using Pen/Psy might be Dark Angel..I do have others but DA comes to mind right now..Oh: Hellspont managed to k.o some enemies with His Pen/Psy back in the days..so he is another one i should use someday again. And even though Pen/Psy wasnt used(I think) then I still have nightmares from the "Avengers vs X-Men" sets Cyclops,who had that Annoying ability to destroy Walls AND to get a shot at you.

His Ongoing Optic Blasts special power is something we don't see very often... Interesting. Since he can make range attacks against adjacent opposing characters, you can use his Running Shot the same way you would use Charge (without choosing to generate knock back at this point) and then, get a free Force Blast that could very well push characters off a cliff or into a wall. 5 clicks for 100 points and relatively easy to hit, though. When you compare him to the the recent Cosmic Spider-Man at 75 points (to be fair, it is a SR figure, not from a Starter Set), he might seem a little point-expensive. If you stick to Force Blasting characters that don't have range, nor Charge, nor Combat Reflexes, he will be interesting in casual play, for sure. It is certainly still a fun figure to play.

How many takes do you need to do before you get the right number on that dice roll?:') Psychic Blast is obviously a great power but I sometimes feel like the combination of that and Running Shot is sometimes overused and just slapped on figures when they can't decide what else to give them (e.g. I think it's Spider-Girl from SFSM). That said, I wouldn't complain if I played figures like that :') It's so abundant I'm not even sure I have a favourite figure with it :')

Hehe! I got lucky on that roll... There are two things that need to happen actually; the roll must end in the shot and be successful. I fully agree with your assessment especially regarding Spider-Girl. How is it that the web shooters can penetrate armor? I think it might be linked to the fact that too many characters have damage reducing defense powers when they shouldn't. On the designers' defense, though, it's got to be hard to keep everything balanced. But I think it would be nice to see a new Darkseid soon with traited Pen-Psy. Actually, and this thought just hit me, what if they designed a character with several comic-accurate traited powers and no standard powers on the dial; just degrading combat values... Or perhaps just an "escape plan" power or two on the last clicks. Hm.

Hi TTT i have a doubt, i dont understand why you cant use Pen/Psy with hypersonic, i know hyper requires a power action but also running shot, and both give you a free ranged combat action.

You are quite right to doubt... In retrospect, I should have worded that part differently. The end result is the same, but what I should have said is this: All these powers require a power action, but only Penetrating/Psychic Blast allows a ranged combat ***action*** as a free action; RCE and HS allow a ranged combat ***attack*** (or a close combat attack in the case of HS). Pen-Psy requires a ranged combat action to activate. As I said, the result is the same; you can't combine HS and Pen-Psy. Question my girlfriend bought me a starro for my birthday and I had noticed it has literally nothing but penetrating blast but in your video You said unless it's a giant piece that gives it improve combat so my question is if someone gets up in starros face can he still use penetrating blast?

Nope... The Giant or Colossal character has improved targeting, but that doesn't transfer it to the adjacent opposing characters. Look at the "Great Size" keyphrase ability on the 2017 PAC; you'll see that great size characters get the improved targeting, but that doesn't go both ways.
