The utility is there as icing. It's primary purpose is to give you a gap close, escape, and extra damage. The fact that you can do that for your allies as well is gravy, not what you should be using it for 100% of the time. The E build is all about synergy. Individually, the talents suck. But together, they give you a huge amount of AoE damage, speed, sustain, and crowd control. You get to keep that speed boost for an extra duration, sticking to enemies and dealing your increased damage twice, and getting a big shield to help you trade more effectively. This build is good when the enemy has a bunch of melee tanks and melee assassins that you need to outlast and chase down.

The big reason for the E build is the slow with the echo, it makes it much easier to land multiple Qs and lock down targets for your team to kill. Its 1.5s move speed for you, followed by 3.5s slow working out to 5s of solid chase every 8s, and 40% slow in an aoe with almost 50% uptime.

It's not that Meteor build is harder to play, it's that it's just not always good. Like the E build isn't always good. Or the Q. It's almost like there's some kind of theme within this game's design... something like where different situations might call for different talent builds or heroes or something. Weird.

Meatball build /is/ always good. It's just not always optimal. No matter what comp you're against, if you're good you can get 100k+ hero damage going meatball build in roughly 16-20 minutes.

Chase P. Seriously no idea why you call it weird, if a talent tree only exist of one good build, then why do we need a talent tree? Why don't just make it like the skill upgrade that has been used for a long time in dota or lol? The reason is simple, hots is all about situational, no hero "should" only good on one build, if it is, that's mean that particular hero is really bad design or the player itself who never explore another possibility. I like that pretty much all of rag's talents are situational, like for example his defensive tiers at 4 and 13 all have their uses in certain situations, his level 20 talents are all decent enough to consider, all of his damage talents are also worth considering. I think that's pretty neat.

The E build is SCARY good... against/with the right team. A meele heavy opposition and some solid CC on your side are needed to make it work. If you can get that going however, it does a ton of damage and slows anything caught in the explosion.

Just go Q build then.. it'd do more damage, heal for me, and is able to do % based damage. Just get slow burn at 4, since there are no q talents at that tier.

I think one of the reasons people love e build is cus it gives a tracer- like feel in the aspect that you can move 70% faster so u can pretty much atk and run at the same time with it. only problem is that it requires ur team to have melee heroes who will get in there and chase.

So the general idea with the 'e' build is that Pally is right. Without talents it is trash. But by talenting into everything else(q or w) you only marginally increase those abilitiy's powers. By talenting up 'e', it becomes useful(slow at 4) and vastly more powerful. I still would not talent in the shield talent. But it does spike his power more by talenting at least the slow.

really late reply but pally also kinda used the build wrong in this video. there were way too many times that he wasted the ability for team utility instead of his personal usage. with the build his e does double damage when on him and shields him the more he hurts the enemy with it. there was a few times he coulda gotten his double e on someone for up to 800+ damage and he instead made a teammate move faster when he didn't need to since once he E connects it will slow the enemy and let his team catch up

Good thing about that lvl 20 talent is that it increases your ult damage too. Sulfuras smash hits for 1954 instead of 1303 at lvl 20. Same happens with Lava wave

100% increased damage is 2x damage. So if it's base 137 it does 274 when used on yourself. Much more than you gave the talent credit for. E Build is pretty fun if the enemy team doesn't have a lot of CC or if your team does have cc to help setup

Pally, trust your instincts. The E build looks like what you use if you can point a meteor at someone. Rag hasn't been out long enough for the hots logs data to reflect to true superiority of the W Build yet is my guess. Regardless of what others say, I think you were right to criticize the E ability as well as the build focused around it. I'm probably gonna get some flak for this, but the meatball build seems like it could not be that useful on good players. I mean all you have to do is walk to the right or left and you can easily juke the direction change. The E build gives you decent survivability and utility, the q build does good dmg and good surviabilty.

You can use it on yoiur minions to press lanes to catch laning enemies off guard if they are not very powerful wave clear heroes. You also seem to use it not in team fights as much as possible to catch and slow people in the blast since it does blow up fast. Though I personally think a pure E build is pretty weak but if you make a hybrid Q and E maybe there is some real use for it.

I actually love the level 7 talent for the same reason you don't like it. My favorite part of e-build rag is rushing in with Double E's going off while also using your other abilities. I rarely, if ever use my E on another hero tbh.

At lvl 4 of this build I would pick the Spell shield on Living meteor and blast wave shield at lvl 13. Makes Rag much more tanky. At lvl 16 Blast echo and gl trying to get a KO on Rag.

I think you chose to use the E build against the wrong comp. I find that the Ragnaros E build shines when facing a more melee-oriented team on a map where team fights are unavoidable, like the Raven map. The amount of sustain and damage output you can get when you hit multiple people is great. I've wiped out entire groups with double blast wave. But it becomes very lacking on more spread out maps and against ranged people.

E build feels strong against a team with lots of melee while ill take W build against teams where you can punish range dps from afar. Guess its also important if you have enough melees in your team or not. If you dont then E build could be good. If you have enough front line then i will go for W build whatever the enemy team have more melee or ranged heroes... Dunno xD

pally, the shield talent "give shield if damages a hero" counts only for 1 hero. so if you hit 5 or 1 it doesnt matter its always the same amount of shield. that talent is horrible.
