Like someone else said he reacted to bullets but not sword, hiro didn't stop the time to kill him. Overal the way Sylar died was poor.

I loved this show, but even back then, I couldn't help but shake my head at the Peter vs. Syler scene. Peter could call on a combination of over a dozen powers, including Syler's telekinesis and he goes with "Punch in the face a few times."

It's TV trope. It's happening when character becomes too OP and writers don't know how to write stories around them and villains aren't really a threat to them. Then they are either taking away hero's powers or making him unable to control them. It's happening literally all the time: Phoebe on Charmed, Isabelle on 4400, Daisy on Agents of Shield, etc.

Always bothered me how Sylar could stop Parkman's bullets that were aimed at his back, but he just let Hiro run him through with a sword AFTER Hiro gets his attention by shouting his name.

Becoz hiro tried killing him once but was once too weak to do it and as a result, sylar froze his sword he got from Linderman. Sylar even humiliated his weakness at that scene. This causes him to go on some kind of Japanese sword training with his father and become stronger. The second time hiro tried to kill Sylar, as shown here, Sylar still thinks Hiro is the same weak one but he was wrong. So to sum it up, he got cocky and this causes his hurt.😱😱

We don't need 4 seasons of Noah saving Claire. Just an example. Matt Parkers laughable romance subplots. Examples of stupid story arcs that ruined the show. No, that doesn't work like that. The strain the Company infected him with was the same one Niki infected herself with. It just blocks the user's powers without deadly side-effects. Candice said that they saved him with 8 surgeries and he was still healing 4 months later but that sort of blow should've severed his spine. At least it looked like it went through his spine.

To be fair, Tim's original idea was the have an ever revolving cast; season two was gonna largely have brand new characters. The network overruled him and demanded he keep existing actors ongoing, which meant changing his original story arc. So story lines that would've had new characters with new powers had to have existing characters shoehorned into them. And for the most part they largely didn't work.

The saddest part of this scene is the fact that, with the control Sylar is established to have over telekinesis at this point in time, he could literally not lose this fight unless he's a complete idiot, or Peter either A: displayed a similar control over telekineses (which he did not) or B: used some sort of ranged energy attack (like a concentrated radiation burst) against him. Which was well out of what peter could do with his lack of control.

With Telekinesis alone, Sylar dominate most of his fights before his full reveal, and even after. It even seemed like he had multiple powers with just TK. Getting Claire's Regen power is when Sylar starts to fall in effectivity. Hes not as creative/resourceful once he has it.

Those were supposed to be some kind of vision according to the writers. But if you'll notice he disappears before the episode is over and that was Candace. Can't blame him for killing her, never liked her anyway. He probably did everyone a favor there like he did with Arthur and Bob. Oh and probably Elle. Can't fault him AT ALL for killing them though I REALLY wanted Peter to be the one to kill Arthur. My favorite episode with these two was The Wall. God I wish we saw more of what happened in Sylar's head that was just so INCREDIBLE!!! We missed out on at least 5 years of interactions between them. Which was confusing since Peter said it was around half a day in the real world which means it was more like 12 years.

Wait, Elle...? First, Kristen Bell was one of the best actors in the series, although some were decent, you could tell some were lacking. Second, The fact he killed her made sense story-wise. However, I saw it low even for Sylar and a better outcome would have been - him leaving her to die or something of the sort, but not killing her himself. Thus, showing true strength to resist, which at that point was doubtful and character development. Yes, I see that plenty of people like the character of that twisted psycho (and yes, he was made to look terrifying and monstrous, which worked really well), but you can't leave your characters at one place and expect to move somewhere. Similarly, they missed an opportunity for Hiro, when he lost his powers... And third - wait, you like season 4? That's quite a stretch.

Well not too much but I actually enjoyed the Peter/Emma storyline. But The Wall is definitely an incredible episode and I wish SO MUCH they did more with that one. They opened up some real possibilities with what they did there. I read that in the Ebook Save the Cheerleader, Destroy the World Sylar and Peter end up co-leaders of the Petrelli Movement against what the government was doing to evos or something like that. I also loved Hiro's time traveling adventure to save Charlie and how she got a happy ending even if it wasn't with him. And one tiny change there had serious effects for the better with Sylar like Noah altering the past slightly in Reborn affected the future in a slight way but for the worse in his case. The show always focused on how the big changes to the past affected things but in season 4 and Reborn they had little things have a big impact. Like how when Tommy discovered by following "the tinniest thread, the smallest butterfly" the one small thing that by changing he could unravel the HELE future.

Sylar's an INTJ, Peter is an ENFP . They Both use "Intuitive Aptitude"(silly title) but Peter uses it subconsciously(means 'instinctively' for you whom are somehow oblivious to the layers of your psyche) to passively and harmlessly incorporate the exotic faculties of special people that he encounters. Sylar's employment of this faculty is heavily compelled by instinct(which is why it manifests as insatiable Hunger) but only activated by epiphany-like inspiration. Such inspiration is functionally the same as instinct but comes from an inverse direction within one's consciousness, rather than ascending from the subconscious it descends from above what's ordinarily the surface realms of consciousness, descending from above the place in which one's sense of self is generally centred(making it actual intuition, as opposed to instinct which relies on biological memory and impulses). It's this difference in their power's manifestation which makes Sylar feel like his actions are justifiable response to the call of divine compulsion. It's a "High" for Sylar, his riding concentric waves of epiphany after epiphany in the act of analyzing and understanding/incorporating new faculties into his being. Hence his reference to Abraham Maslow's the peak experience/"flow state". Though his method is a violent and deadly extraction of desired faculties, to him it is by divine providence that he is compelled to act, thus ethical boundaries are secondary to his "divine right" as a being on the forefront of man's evolution. The difference in functionality is different for the two, Peter absorbs easier but Sylar processes what he absorbs to an extent that renders precision manipulation, superior articulation of greater efficiency in employing newly obtained faculties. This is why Sylar is generally superior to Peter, even when they are using the very same power to face off against each other. Peter only got the edge on Sylar in their conclusive battle of Season one because Nikki Sanders came to rescue him and by her proximity allowed Peter to attain her Super Strength(which Sylar did not also acquire because he needed to explicitly focus on the task of acquisition in order to attain new powers).

indeed, however I will go further to say this show is probably one of TV's finest works, at least the first season. The excellence of the first season is so unparalleled even to this day. The closest thing to this today would be westworld or the wire. The writer's strike really killed the show, or at least derailed it , they had an original plan but bailed and had to recover which they never fully could. The same thing affected smallville but they rebounded and gave us some of the best three final seasons of a show

this happenes from time to time actually more often than not, when shows come out ahead of their time...but at the same time if it wasnt for shows like this we wouldnt get so many good adaptations of heroes in a drama episode to episode good vs bad setting we have today.

A truly stellar first season which combined a great cast, interesting characters, complex plots and solid production values that hinted at the potential this series had. Sadly that potential was not lived up to and got squandered in lackluster subsequent seasons which became increasingly disappointing to watch as the series noticably continued it's drop in standards until it was a shell of it's former self. Even a five year absence did not reverse the downward trend as the revival was not that good nor was it well received.......

I don't remember much about this show i never got to watch it fully but I always liked and remembered the balance/ reflection between the three guys who could absorb powers. If i remember right there was the guy (the flying politician's younger brother maybe? who temporarily absorbed a power leaving the victim unharmed which is kinda a good version, another guy who could absorb but kept one at a time i think, which is a neutral version but probably mis remembering, and there was sylar who could permanently keep powers but had to kill them. It's like a steady increase in potency of the power but with an increasing cost to the victim, a nice steady increase in power in exchange for losing your soul to evil acts

I mean the first season wasn't amazing by any means but it was still pretty good and solid television especially considering what was airing around that time. It could have been Lost's spiritual successor but instead the right is quite literally shit the bed.
