Like to see some specs on these cars, especially the Chevy coupe what engines are they running
@ilikequiet6474 Жыл бұрын
One Chevrolet coupe had an OHV straight 6 like what the car originally came with. Of course that engine was manufactured for many years with different horsepower ratings.

Studebaker late 40's early 50's. The engine would have been the original flathead straight 6 or a OHV V8 which was introduced in 1951

The Fangio coupes are a lot more like my 52' Dodge truck than a car, they say no trucks but can I just follow behind in the Peking and pull people out if they need it? I have a 240Z but I'm not doing that to it!

Great, no fantastic, cars, but the whole production just seems like a country club on tour. I’m not diminishing their accomplishments, making those runs with that equipment takes more than money it takes perseverance, knowledge, and skill but also a huge amount of disposable cash.

Check out the Long Way Round/Down/Up series with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman. Similar to this type of travel. Not on vintage bikes but on early 2000s BMW GS motorcycles and a support vehicle with spare parts and small crew.

Please stop calling Beijing "Peking". At best it makes you sound out of touch. Countries and places change their names all the time. Please respect that.
@samjl4 Жыл бұрын
They didn’t change the name, it’s a fight over romanised transliteration, the ccp has tried for many years to bully the English speaking world into using phonetics that make no sense to how we move our mouths when vocalising words. It’s all an intimidation tactic used against the western print media in particular. What do the Chinese call london then? And why should they call it that rather than what the English call it? Are they out of touch for doing so? Funnily enough many Taiwanese call it peking, why would that be can you wonder? It’s called politics and that’s all it’s ever been about. If that doesn’t wash with you then these recreated historic road rallies ran in period when it was known as peking, so it’s good and proper to refer to it as such in this context, so there.

That's what the race is called. Like ordering Peking duck from a restaurant
@mrmoss149 Жыл бұрын
If you look at the history of the event, it is steeped in the period from long ago. What you are wanting is akin to wanting them to change the name of Le Mons to suit the current iteration or language use prevalent now. You may to refer to it how you will, but history buffs and participants will always refer to it as Peking. I mean seriously, that's like renaming the orient express to the middle Asia express or worse.
@johnmatthews318 Жыл бұрын
Every language uses its own names for places. In French, London is “Londres” and no one complains about that. Also in French, Beijing is “Pékin” and I doubt that would trouble you. If the older form of “Peking” is used in the context of this historic race, it’s no big deal. Besides, you would lose the alliteration if you modernised it. “Beijing to Paris” simply doesn’t have the same ring about it. And if you insist on correctly using “Beijing”, I trust that you also pronounce “Paris” correctly - ie - as a native French speaker would…
@TinLeadHammer Жыл бұрын
@@johnmatthews318 Peking is an Anglo-French pronunciation that is linked to European intervention, opium wars and looting of Chinese palaces, in particular the Old Summer Palace. It just carries sour connotation. Similar to, say, calling Leśnica as Bergstadt.
