Great timing for the video Peter my newly acquired pines are turning yellow and I was starting to think that they were dying since repotting recently, your reassurance that they are not dying is very encouraging thanks.

As you were walking through your nursery it sounded as though you were trimming a tree! Now that's multitasking at its finest.

Hello bonsai breakfast clubbers ☕️🥣🧇🌳🌲🌴 I have something of a fixation with Japanese pines at the moment. They make such beautiful bonsai subjects.

This is why I absolutely love Peter... he said "Literally decimate the trees" and used both "literally" and "decimate" correctly. This is my white whale of being obsessed with word usage, and those trees were 100% "literally decimated", since they lost about 10% of their needles. This video made my day, so many amazing trees as well!

One thing I was hoping you’d cover, because I can’t seem to find an answer anywhere, is how do you keep the branches on white pines from getting too “leggy”? Meaning if the old leaves are dying and falling off, and the new growth is on the ends of the branches don’t the branches just continue to get longer and longer? At least for my eastern white pine bonsai that seems to be the case. The older it gets, the farther from the trunk the leaves get. Am I missing some technique to combat this?

does this apply to spruce also

Interesting episode, can you tell us the botanical name of the chocolate-scented tree? Google just gave me the true cacao species, thanks.I live in a native redwood forest and my entire roof and driveway are covered this time of year, weeks before our deciduous tree shed.

Peter mentioned it in one of his episodes previously too, it is the Cercidiphyllum japonicum, commonly also named Katsura (there are some others too), Judas leaf tree or from German Japanese Cake Tree, which suits him best tbh.

Peter, you really need to be more up to date with your videos, because whenever I follow your advice, it's already too late in the year and I suffer failure.
