Program Description:
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) -1 and HSV-2 are common human pathogens and cause a variety of clinical manifestations in pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. As with other herpes viruses, primary infection is followed by the establishment of latency, and reactivation can lead to recurrent disease. Disease ranges from mucosal infections such as cold sores and genital herpes, to invasive and life-threatening infections such as neonatal HSV disease and HSV encephalitis.
This presentation will discuss the epidemiology of HSV infections, clinical manifestations, treatment, and prevention strategies, and emphasize the appropriate use of and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
This webinar is made possible by a special educational grant from DiaSorin Molecular.
