My brother and I took the same baler out to the field for the first time this year... turned on the pto and it snapped a shear bolt on the first rotation.. the short of it is the plunger was striking the knives and bring it to a stop.. only thing we can think of is the rails and bearings are worn out since the plunger is riding low enough to make contact with the bottom triangle shaped blades in the shoot/ tunnel. Being new to this we spent probably 6 hours trying to get the plunger out.. removed all the knives and made up blocks to hold all the spring loaded catches out of the way like you did with the wrenches and this thing is being held up by a few pieces of L shaped metal at the bottom of the shoot past the first set of blades. This has been an absolute nightmare for us so far.. but we didn't remove any bottom shields like you did. I'm about to head back out to the shop and see if that'll make a deference. Thankyou for the video, I know this is 6 years old but if you read this story I wrote and have any advice it would be super appreciated. Have a good day and hopefully a smoother harvest than us!

*update. We got it. Had to remove the plates that have a lip on them (all 3) that are bolted behind stationary triangle blades. And 3 on each side round head bolts further down the tunnel/shoot past those and the plunger came right now. 2 of the bearing wheels fell onto the ground as soon as the plunger cleared the shoot.. definitely our problem. If anyone else is struggling with the plunger removal on a MF1837 I'd be happy to walk you through what we did. Hope yall have a great day and ty again for the video. It definitely made a difference!

My 4600 is nearly identical to yours even though it's way older! Really appreciate the videos! Taking my plunger out this week. Spent this winter rebuilding the main gear box (that was fun!) Everything seems to be in good shape now except I've got play in what they call the "pin wrist" that pivots on the end of the plunger. So, I'm hoping it's just bushings or something / hard to tell from service manual. Guess I'll sharpen knives and inspect rollers while she's out. Bought this baler for $2200 last year. Ran 1600 bales through it without issue. I don't mind putting some time/money into it.

That's the part I missed also! Now I'm stuck until I figure out how to get it unstuck. Lots of fun! Very interesting taking everything apart. Never would have tried it without this video. Now just to get it out! "Easy to get these things in and out", maybe next time:-)

Jimmy Harris we’ve had it about 5 years we’ve probably put somewhere around 45000 bales threw it an we bought it used the only thing we’ve done to it that wasn’t related to the damage from the previous owner is I put a belt on the pickup an teeth in an I’m about to replace the rollers on the plunger I’d say it’s around a 2006 model

Bagwell Farms I just tig welded the eyelets on mine last night but I’m not too sure about it I was hoping you had some video somewhere on reworking them really appreciate the videos on the Baler maintenance I’m reviewing them all right now thanks a lot for doing that so great public service. I know the needles need flex when they rub the knotter just hope welding them does not ruin ductility, might see what new cost
