National Reconnaissance Office Declassified HEXAGON Video
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia en.wikipedia.or...
KH-9 HEXAGON, commonly known as Big Bird, was a series of photographic reconnaissance satellites launched by the United States between 1971 and 1986. Of twenty launch attempts by the United States Air Force, all but one were successful. Photographic film aboard Big Bird was sent back to Earth in recoverable film return capsules for processing and interpretation. The best ground resolution achieved by the main cameras was better than 0.6 meters.
They are also officially known as the Broad Coverage Photo Reconnaissance satellites (Code 467), built by Lockheed Corporation for the National Reconnaissance Office.
The KH-9 was declassified in September 2011 and an example was put on public display for one day.
On January 26th, 2012 the National Museum of the United States Air Force put a KH-9 on public display along with its predecessors the KH-7 and KH-8.

I was the last flight qualified telemetry operator for the ^594Test Group that recovered the packages. Looks simple on film but is a wild ride in the 130. Amazing engineering

I saw that the Hexagon KH-9 strongly influenced the final design of the space shuttle.

That's been the speculation for many years. I've still never found any official confirmation.

Gotta love how they were taking overhead pix of the historical footage they allowed us to see.

This film contains far less Titan footage than I was hoping for. ;)

@AlienZygote010 Thanks...I rather suspect those photos aren't nearly as clear as the kind of satellite photos provided by Google today---which raises the question why the films redacted the photos. Seems far-fetched that revealing the resolution of our photo reconnaisance satellites over 20 years ago could provide an adversary any useful information.

I'm not sured whether the self-congratulatory B.S. in 0 to 5:00 or the upbeat music cue that goes with the Soviet H-bomb test at 6:00 is more disturbing. They're both pretty disturbing.

It was probably made BY the NRO, but since it was classified, who was the NRO planning to show it to? Hence my conjecture that it might have been congress, the US government, NRO trainees, etc.
